I know the process looks systematic but it is anything but. For example, the Sonic RS I ordered had a TPW 10/12/2012 on 10/05/2012 and it maintained that TPW up until it was produced on 11/07/2012. It went to 3400 on 10/27/2012 and still had the 10/12 TPW.

I have had similar experiences on other orders. The only order that went like clockwork and was assembled the week originally scheduled was the C6 Corvette. That order was accepted in the first Consensus in May 2004, went to 3100 07/08/2004 with a 08/02 TPW then to 3400 07/28/2004 and was produced the week of 08/02/2004.

To answer your question: the order of production is retail sold orders for which a dealer has allocation will be pulled (for the most part) before dealer stock orders. If there is a constraint the dealer will have the option of changing the order or that slot will be given to another dealer, which is why less than ten dealers will get more than half of allocations - the result of several years of taking any unwanted allocations. Allocations are based on a model year sales selected by the company, generally the previous full model year.

A lot of words to describe a complex procedure and I am sure I left something out.

Last I saw, orders for convertibles will be accepted in December, an apparent change from the long rumored November. This was a few weeks ago.

I put my order in Saturday as well. The dealer was really up front about not charging over MSRP.

The funny thing was this dealer had no pricing at all. I had to use my pricing sheet during the order process and then left it at the dealership for the sales guy.

The first dealer I was working with was $5,000 over. I was gonna pay it. Figured that the price of relative exclusivity. Found a dealer closer, @ MSRP.

My dealer HEALEY CHEVROLET INC pretty but alot of dealers here assholes. This Ford dealer wanted me to pay over sticker for a GT 500 after they have been out for yrs. When I told him I wouldn't pay more than MSRP and really wanted a discount he said I'm obviously not a GT 500 owner so I was like you mean an idiot

Yep. I remember when the Gen5 Camaro came out, there was a dealer in the Chicagoland area that wanted 11k over sticker.

I imagine that there are a lot of people that think when a new car comes out that it's the norm to pay MORE than sticker. You would think that people would use the internet and resources like this forum to realize that isn't the case PRIOR to going to their local dealership.

This was common for the Gen5 Camaros. I think that most of the dealers taking preorders were charging 5k-10k over MSRP and people were paying it. I got lucky and found one of the few dealerships in my area that actually cut me a deal for slightly under MSRP.
