ZL1 Recaro Seat Protection/Care
I picked up a red 2017 A10 ZL1 on July 4th. I just finished doing the protective bra and ceramic on the exterior and want to know what best to use to protect the Recaro seats. Recaro states that the suede is leather, so I'm guessing that the bolsters are leather. I don't know about the steering wheel. Hope to finish up and start to drive the car. I started by looking for an SUV and then fell in love with the new Miata... and ended up with the ZL1. I really didn't need a new car and purchased the car off the showroom because it was so good looking, but it is by far the nicest car that I have ever owned and I only wish that I joined the club years ago. All of you have such good taste.
Any idea regarding protecting the seats and steering wheel, or if protection is even needed...? Thanks in advance.. |

The steering wheel, door and knee bolsters, shifter and center of the front seats are all micro suede. All I use is Adam's leather cleaner and conditioner on the actual leather. Then I use a wet hot micro fiber towel on the steering wheel and shifter once a month, wipe them down and then use a dry MF towel to wipe them off and allow them to dry.
Conditioning leather in a GM vehicle is a wasted effort for the most part. The leather GM uses has a clear protective film over it, so the conditioner never makes it into the leather. |

+1 TJay74's advice. FYI the sueded microfiber is synthetic (mostly polyester). Just don't get crazy with the chemicals and you'll be fine.

The Recaro website confused me with their suggestion the seats were a leather suede. It made and makes more sense that it is synthetic. Thanks for the information. I have a number of Adam's products and generally like their line of car care products.

I use Sonax Upholstery and Alcantara Cleaner. Works great, little goes a long way.
Our dash, shifter boot, shift knob, wheel is Alcantara. I don't think the seats are Alcantara, its some type of man made fabric. The cleaner works great on them too... The above poster is correct, the leather has some type of coating, just wipe it clean with the above cleaner if needed.
