[QUOTE=HuJass;8937842]What will you do/say if the guy (or his family) come looking for the car?
I mean, you DID take $18K from him in exchange for the car.
It's quite possible that he (or his family) have a bill of sale showing he purchased it from you.
How do you justify your actions if he comes looking?

Not baggin on you. just curious.[/QUOTE

Id say just keep good records of all expenses to get it back in working condition. If someone makes a legitimate claim for it down the road you should have the right to be reimbursed for it. Really doubt that happens but you never know!

Sometimes you just luck out. A few years ago a freind had pavers installed on his pool deck. He gave them a check when done but it was never cashed and never heard from him again.

This is why In my state(PA) to sell a car the title must be signed in presence of a notary in order to legally transfer it before it goes any further. Can not believe in some places it is not required so things like this mess don't occur . Hopefully you don't have any repercussions from this cluster**** in the future.

What am I not seeing here???? If the car was pulled over for fake plates/fake insurance why didn't the police impound it? What happened to the keys if he was pulled over???? Didn't you say you got a bill for work done on the car and the shop owner was going to have it auctioned off??? If it was in the shop for repairs wouldn't the owner have the keys???? This plot has taken a few too many twists.

The whole thing has an odd aroma if you ask me. Who knows what has been going on with this car?

Only thing I would worry about (and I would worry) is if this vehicle has been connected with bad people doing bad things.

Would make my skin crawl to have it parked in front of my house, and I'd never put my Family in harms way.

Fake insurance, fake plates. Uh hu. Doesn't sound wholesome to me.

Bought a house on foreclosure and the previous residents were of the unsavory type. Cleaned us out real good. The value we lost was far more than the price of a car. Insurance reimbursed a percentage, but couldn't wash away the creepy feeling. Bought a high end security system with some of the settlement.

I would just encourage you to be careful with your dealings with this. My Spidy Sense is on high alert.

JK, it was not a repair shop after all. Just a towing company.

I'm glad you finally wised up and took advantage of this windfall.

You got lucky, sold it to a deadbeat with free money so he doesn't care. It's like winning the lottery except you are just profiting from an idiot, the American way, kind of like he conned his boss to buy it for him, probably with conditions that weren't met.

Most guys here don't seem to be very street smart.

Yeah. No worries. Until the guy gets out of prison and tracks down his car.

Well then he would be blaming the wrong people. It's either the OP or the auction block, Fair is fair.

You think anyone bidding on it at the auction would be scared? Maybe you should make the trip to inform them of the impending doom associated with buying abandoned vehicles.
