C7 Corvette Stingray vs Porsche Carrera S

Considering the Carrera S is the Stingray's most direct rival how do you think it will match up

Powering down a straight is more rapid than ever before, with the Carrera S gaining a 15-hp bump for an even 400-hp. A respectable number, what’s amazing is how Porsche utilizes it. With the ultra fast PDK, weighing 100 lbs less than its predecessor and equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package, the car gets a claimed 3.9-second 0-60 time. With that statistic, not to mention a top speed of 185 mph, the 911 is now the world’s fist $96,000 exotic.

VS.

With the MSRP of the mighty Carrera S' starting pricepoint at nearly 100K just to get in one, this new Stingray is a big bargain. I'm also a Porsche fan but the new Corvette negated all my notions of how to get a new P-car in my garage. I'd rather spend 55-60% of that 100K on a C7 and have tens of thousand$ left over... that's already a win. And the deal gets even sweeter once its verified at first hand that the int/ext quality of the new Stingray is confirmed as topshelf. Raise the bar even higher when a C7 Z06 is released...

Close numbers but performance wise, the C7 should likely score high across the board in many areas... we all can't wait for head to head comparisons. I know I'll be reading/scooping up plenty each of various automotive magazines later on this year!

I expect/predict...

New Corvette =

911 Carrera S = :second:

Yeah, but the Carrera S is rear-engine, which proves to be a completely different animal on a road course...

Yes indeed. The new 911 has many positive things going for it... less overall weight and optimal weight distribution... plus its effects on handling. This thing is a go-kart... always was too. The formula hasn't drastically changed... only evolved. Can't wait to see it against the new C7.

The two cars my wife is considering......Well she wants a Turbo S, but she is liking the C7 waaaaaaayyyyyyy more, even if she doesn't realize it yet.

Both will have amazing handling, lightning fast 0-60 (or 0-62) times and be neck and neck for the title of Car of the Year. I'm liking the chances the C7 has after seeing how they botched the Cayman.

Well the next model c7 will put fear and panic into the hearts of those who doubt it. Those two would be more of an comparison when the time comes.

I like both however 100K? No triple digits on a car for me.

The stingray looks so evil...in a good way.

I owned a 2008 911 convertible and a 2007 Corvette...both base engines. While the 911 seemed quicker, the raw power of the Corvette overshadowed the Porsche. Unfortunately, I did not own them at the same time, but one after the other. For these models, I liked the Porsche better for the interior quality and amenities. However, the Corvette always seemed like the engine was stronger...the Porsche more nimble and light, especially in cornering. That was the LS2 engine...

I will always be a Porsche and Ferrari fan, but the price point of the C7 is ridiculous compared to the others. Corvette will always be the best bang for the buck.

I think Porsche really has to worry about the C7. The Corvette can no longer be criticized for its interior or its lack of finesse. The only place where the Porsche wins is in the transmission. The 6spd slush box is simply no match for the PDK.

Has Porsche sorted out the bore scoring problem in the new generation ? I just don't feel comfortable with Porsche after reading about it and Porsche refuses to acknowledge the problem. That's the beauty of the Vette, a small block Chevy is bulletproof.

Knowing that Carrera S is a rear engine car it will be something else when on the road.
