Broken Key
My warranty is about to run out and I have to take my 45th in for service. One of my switchblade keys broke, so now I only have one working one, which I will have to use to get the car there.
It sounds here like I do not have to surrender the intact key for their wonderful solution to the recall. Is that true? Can I assume that they will not replace the fob on the broken key, and will automatically stick the blade into a cheap plastic head? Any other solution to fix my broken fob?

I don't know if you would have to do that, as from what I've read if you already have the key before the recall you can opt out of the recall. On the other side of this, you can buy just the replacement blanks on ebay for around $8 w/free shipping. Or the whole thing for around $25. Good luck! I hate the new keys, so I've been looking at putting the blade back in.

Happen to me also. Cheap ass key...
Anyways short story you can still use that broken key. Just put the actual key part in and turn it with the fob. I had to do this cuz I was away from home. But you still can get another one with the link above.

They probably do not have the laser cutting machine needed to cut the key.

Cheap Chinese metal, most likely. Democrats in Congress are working on a plan to block illegal cheap metal sales. Hopefully they will be successful.

What so now congress makes nearly impossible to produce metal in the states because of the EPA and now they are going to disallow the sales metal made else where? And don't get me wrong I hate china as much as the next guy but I don't not need the government to make decisions for me. I hope that they are not successful. It's about time our government take a huge step back and stop making new laws and maybe get rid of some instead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

my local GM dealer has the laser cutter required to cut these keys! Call around and ask a couple dealers if they have the machine, it's pretty expensive, so not many dealers buy it.
