Cam recommendations please

Hello all, I know this is been searched 1000 times and I thought I did my research when I bought my cam but I didn’t do a very good job lol. I have a Texas speed stage two now which cannot be tuned for the highway. I’ve spent 2500 bucks on tunes
to no avail. I’m looking for recommendations on a camshaft that has a really good sounding idle but works good on the highway. I’m on a 600 mile road trip as I speak and this cam is driving me nuts. Every long hill I have to coast I need to push the clutch in because of the excessive bucking. I want to get away from that and get something that is smooth on the highway. I was going to wait until winter but after the last couple days it’s some thing I’m going to do right away if I can get the proper cam. If anyone has recommendations please let me know what you think.

Thank you
Randy

Thank you for the reply, that’s what I thought when I bought it but I have honestly been through two tuners and no one can tune it to run smooth. I’m on a road trip now with a bunch of cars that have a hell of a lot more horsepower than I do and they are running smooth as silk but the cam isn’t quite as big maybe. I’m just so tired of the bucking.

When does it buck? Under 2k RPM?

Between 1750 and 2200 is the worst

Sounds like you need more tuning from a better tuner. Its the nature of these cams to buck at low speed but not that bad. Mine for instance likes to stay above 1800 rpm which is easy to do when you expect it.

I find it really good on the bottom end and up to about 1500 and above 2250 is really good but at anywhere in between that is terrible. So far I’ve been staying in fifth gear at about 2900 on the highway and it’s tolerable but seems a bit extreme.

Yeah that's not right. It should be steady 1500 and up

Ok that’s what I was thinking too. I’ve had lots of older cars that were Cammed but this is the first newer one lol. Guess I’m showing my age lol. I honestly didnt think it would be this much hassle or I would have left it alone. Or likely not lol

It really shouldn't be that bad. Something is going on with yours. Those TSP stage 2 cams are a pretty reliable power maker. Should be an easy fit for a manual car.

Yea man, this sounds tune related for sure.

There are people running much larger cams than this with very little to no bucking and great daily manners. I know it sucks to have to spend more money but this can be solved with a competent tuner. Go elsewhere and explain your issues. These are very commonly run cams and nothing out of the ordinary for a good tuner to tame.

Thanks very much for the info. I’m kind of stuck now. There is only one local tuner and that’s 3 hours away and he couldn’t get it figured out. I got the second tune remotely done by Ted at JRE. Which I must say he done and incredible job on getting the car to idle properly and takeoff smoothly but the bucking at highway speed’s is crazy. I think I’m kind of stuck with what I have unless I find another on line tuner to try.

Did you tell Ted this was happening after he tuned it? What did he say?
