Dumb Question?
I bought my Z/28 used and when I got it everything worked, except the trans temp gauge. I didn't think this was a big deal and was to busy enjoying it to figure out why it didn't work. Well, I had it in last week for an alignment and asked them to look at the gauge. After some checking, they said that the gauge wasn't compatible with LS7 cars. They thought this was strange and I do as well. So is it true? Is the trans temp gauge inoperable on all Z/28s? I did a quick forum search and found nothing on this, so I am guessing they do work and something is wrong with mine, but I am sure you all will solve this mystery, so thanks.

Z/28 does not come with the center console gauges, someone had installed them at some point. The trans temp gauge is NOT compatible with the Z/28. Factory should look like this.

D2M is correct...that area is empty on a Z/28. Someone put an SS/ZL1 gauge cluster in it as it didn't come from the factory with those gauges. If it has trans temp, it is an SS gauge cluster. The ZL1 has a boost gauge it that location.

Thanks for the info, of all the looking at specs and content I did before I bought one, somehow I did not notice this. The first owner must have installed the SS gauge package.
