Modded C5 corvette vs stock Z28.
Hey Z28 owners. How many of you with stock Z28s ran into modded N/A C5 vettes on road courses. I know driver is a contributing factor as well but how did it go. Were you seeing their tail lights or other wise.

I haven't run with a C5 yet on the racetrack with my Z28 but my former car was an 02 Z06 lowered with T1 sway bars, full exhaust, tune, 4pt roll bar, and aggressive camber.I can say without question that this Z28 in stock form is ridiculously better in every aspect. My Z06 had tons of body roll on the track and the brakes were horrible in stock form with hawk pads as compared to the Z28. I have yet to discover the limits on this car on the same racetracks as compared to the Z06 that I used to power slide through many turns.

I was able to actually drive a full race C5 Corvette on track on the same day as my own Z.
My Z only mods are headers with cats and camber plates on 325/30/19 BS RE11. Ran a 1:34.0 on this track on this day. This C5 Vette is a full ex Phoenix Racing race car. Engine and exhaust are bone stock. T2 GM suspension, fully gutted car with full cage. 315/30/18 Hosier A7 slicks with many heat cycles. I ran a 1:33.2 in this car on this day. This was my first time in this car ever. I had 5 laps including out lap. My impressions of the Vette: The car is AMAZING!! This was the best balanced car I have ever driven.. It also takes the curbs really well, you can really cheat over the curbs with not upsetting the car at all. However you do notice the lack of downforce over 100mph corners, braking was not as good. Overall a thumbs up from me.. I also got to drive this Ariel Atom as well. This car cant be explained in words. Slower but way more fun than Z or Vette or Evo ext... |

A C5 Z06 with R comps wasn't a huge challenge to pass on track. However, a C7 (non Z06) with R comps is quite a good car. We ran together for many laps without a huge difference in lap times. Our cars were nearly identical on straightaway acceleration. I was slightly better in some of the tighter turns but not enough to make up much ground.

I have run against several modded C5 Z06s and, though a few were quite quick, never saw their taillights. None were race prepped like the Phoenix car above though.
