Wheel curb rash

I just went over my new to me ZL1 and found some curb rash on my factory black rim. It’s about an inch or so wide and only on the outside lip. I can easily smooth it back out but does anyone know if there is a paint that it can put on it and buff it in to make it look better?

Take it to a paint store and have it matched and put in an aerosol can, you should be able to tape and blend good enough with the can. these wheels have the worst wheel paint ever.

Do a Google search for "Alloy wheel repair near me" they can fix and paint for probably $100

Hey I was curious how you know that Dupli-Color HWP104 is a good paint match for the wheels? I have a set and have been looking everywhere for information on paint that matches so I can repair some rim rash on my own set. I haven't been able to find anything that's good or solid information but instead just mostly speculation on this forum. Have you used this paint on the ZL1/1LE wheels yourself? Can you give me some details of how you know it's a perfect match? Anything would help because I am at a brick wall.

I use a black Sharpie. Works every time especially for the smaller scratches. Transport company gave mine a 2" gash!

I picked up 4 ZL1 wheels for my grandson, yes I'm old. They were dinged and rashed pretty good.

Put some time in sanding and feathering the rash and dings. Washed the wheels with a wash to remove the road grime and brake dust. Wiped the wheels with prep solve, sprayed with self etching primer, high build primer, both compatible with aluminum 2 coats each. Then 3 coats of the HWP104 Dupli-Color. They came out very nice. A friend was helping me. He sold automotive paints for 30+ years. He was very impressed with how the paint covered and how smooth it lay.

We did the complete face of the wheel. 4 wheels used about 2.5 cans.

A trick we used, if painting the wheel with the tires on the wheels place playing cards, over lapping, between the wheel and tire. Eliminate over spray on the tire.

Have a few spots that I should have spent more time on but overall they look very nice.

Now that the wheels are completely painted we can do touch up if, when, needed.

Just remember if you plan to do this preparation is 95% of the job.

Good luck
Craig

I got mine a little rashed and ended up getting them powder coated with a bit more gloss in them to ease cleaning

Apologies for the super late reply, I never got the alert that you replied!

I've used it plenty of times on my wheels, after I sand down the wheel and respray it with the HWP104 I can't tell which have been repainted, and which haven't. Hope this helps.
