The ZL1 Odering Process - My experience

For those that plan on doing this but never have or have not done it in a long time, I thought I would give a brief summary of my experience (your's may vary) in ordering my 2017 HBM/M6 ZL1. Some of this is duplicate from another thread but I thought having it all in one place might make it easier to follow.

1) Found dealer with allocation and agreed to MSRP (no ADM, no bump sticker). Got it in writing. See Image #1

2) Built the car on GM Global Connect and put it in the queue waiting for Sept 8th ordering process to begin. See images #2-4.

3) Went to dealer on Sept 8th to see how things were progressing and confirm my order PASSED the GM order evaluation process against product constraints, etc. It did and now we wait for GM to accept the order. I was told just because it passed the online evaluation it did not mean GM had accepted the order and that could take some time. See image #5

4) Got email from dealer stating GM has Accepted the order and I would be put into a production queue sometime after Oct 3rd, the first day of general production of the ZL1. See images #6 and 7.

I will try to keep this thread updated throughout the process but I expect it to be quite now for 3-4 weeks while GM preps for production.

What's the $799.50 dealer fee, if you're not paying over msrp?

The bottom line is you're at code 2000, that's all that matters… Good job… And the 799 doc fee is something most dealers won't give away with that car so new and it's infancy.

In Florida almost every dealer I have dealt with over the years have always had a dealer charge of 399-899. When I lived in TN I had no problem with getting it removed. in FL you can have them remove it but only if they hit you heavy on the back side. It really sucks... should be illegal in my book.

Also, last week I purchased a new 2016 LTZ Tahoe and the dealer was ready to let me walk out before they removed the dealer fee of 875.00. They added some extra services to make up for it but would not remove it.

Thank you for this! It'll come in handy when I go to order mine.

Is there any reason you didn't consider Carl Black Chevrolet or Chevrolet Center? They both offered to sell me the '17 ZL1 at MSRP and their doc fee is less; ~$599 at CB and $437 at CC.

Thanks again!

I live about 3 miles from David Maus. I am also buying my youngest daughter her first car next month AND my son is graduating from college at the end of the year and will be moving back close to home and getting a new car for graduation. They will both need service on their cars and I like (when possible) buying my cars from the same dealer that will service them. I also bought my older daughter's car a few years back and my mom and dad's car last year from them so I would say it is mostly familiarity and convenience.

Somebody at Carl Black was yanking your chain, pal. I've been first in line with them for well over a year, followed by the sales manager's father-in-law, and then 4 other guys.

not that it means anything but I called CB early last week just to see what was available out there and they said they had an open allocation but like I said I went with DM.

Yep, told me the same thing. Plus I personally know the GM so I highly doubt he's yanking my chain. I plan on heading in later today to place the order.

Cool. Talk to Richard, the actual sales floor manager, and let me know how that works out for you.

I'm pretty sure the available sales guy who just happened to have the call transferred to him knows jack squat about the zl1 waiting list line. He just knows they have one allocation.
