not even close... the 2002 was the most powerful of the 4th gen Camaros... even the LT4 cars from the '97 model year SS cars weren't as powerful as the 2002 SS Camaro with the 345hp package from SLP... the base Z28 was rated at 310hp and was DEFINITELY more powerful than the '98 model... better heads, better intake, no EGR, etc. made the 2002 model far superior.

now the '98 models did have a bigger cam and a faster ramping throttle body... but that was offset by the fact that it had the crappy LS1 intake and those horrible heads from the '98 model year... which was the only year that the LS1s in Camaros had the perimeter bolt heads... I believe those were the 853 casting heads.

I would say its a good buy. I bought my 1999 v6 for 5,500 71,000miles, t-tops, ss hood, dual exhuast (just the tips), black leather seats, and a small spoiler. But the left window doesn't go down, the trunk needs those air lifters, and a new gasket. So buying that ls1 is a good buy for me but u need more info on it, i was looking for a ls1 too but they were all over 7,000

every time I look at your camaro, I want to come steal it, lol, its just a very well maintained piece of muscle.

here is what I am looking for:
98-2002 model year.
SS, manual tranny,
coupe or T-top (preferably coupe) Im a little worried about the seals leaking.

black or red (exterior) color
tan or black leather (interior) (preferably black)
no more than 80,000 miles (seems high but I dont mind one that is broke in, just not broken down.)

I would probably have to top out at 12,000-15,000.

distance to travel for picking it up is not a problem, if its what I want I will definately go to get it.

Also I really appreciate any help that you can give. And if you know any one that is interested in a couple of mustangs let me know 1969 Grande coupe (302 w/500+ H.P.) and a stock 1990 Mustang LX 5.0 convertible. I will send pictures if you know of anyone.

Hey camaro2009,

I may have something you like, let me know:

I have an 01 Black exterior/ Black interior SS

Engine:

LS1, 95,xxx miles...its broken in not broken down...they are primarily interstate miles cause I go to LSU in baton rouge and commute back home to Shreveport every now and then..

Ported and polished throttle body
MSD 8.9 ignition wires
MTI motorsports carbon fiber lid
and Pacesetter longtube headers, race style no egr

Tranny:

stock tranny but has LS2 flywheel and LS7 clutch with about 6,000 miles on it

B&M ripper short throw shifter

Exhaust:

SLP loudmouth 2 full exhaust
DMH electric cutout

Wheels:

18X9.5 front and 18X10.5 Chrome Z06 rims on the car, with Nitto 555 tires on front and Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires on back

Suspension:

UMI weld in 3 point subframe connectors
Bilstein re-valved shocks

Interior:

9 out of 10

Black interior with probably 1 minor defect which is where my ass slides in and out on the leather seat...haha i can show pic

Alpine deck with iPod hookup in glovebox
Alpine 10" Subwoofer 1500W inside stealth box in back left fender wall
Alpine Front and mid speakers

Overall I'd say the car is a 9 out of 10 honestly....I take VERY good care of the car. I wash it every weekend and wax the first weekend of every month...I can take pictures later and post them on if you'd like, just let me know if this sounds like something you like...

When I bought My 98 z28 A year ago High book was $6800. So 6000 ins't too bad as long as it doesn't have tons of mile, or if the body is hammered. The LS1 is a reliable engine. I usually don't rev mine above 3000 rpms. You just don't need to. Thats the beauty of 10.5:1 comp. As for the ss or Z28. the Z28's all come w/ the LS1 .The SS came out half a year later and has a little more power. mine is rated at 305 horse and 335 ftlbs the ss is 320 horse and 345 ftlbs. I don't think there is any other difference between the two, other that a few cosmetic details. If you want The best performance look for a WS6 Ram air trans am they are geared better for the top end. I know I could be flogged off of the forum for sayin Trans am: but its all GM right.

'camaro2009', I have a friend, whose mother owns a very nice/clean SS.

I believe its an '01 or '02, 6 spd., t-tops, dark leather, painted 10 spokes, etc...

I know you said traveling to find one isnt an issue, but I'm not sure Pa. isnt too far?
