Shift limiter

This probably has been discussed before. The owners manual does not
really explain the 1st to 4th skip shift. What is the real purpose?
My feeling is, if one an afford a C7, how important is fuel economy?
Dealer offers no good explaination other than run the revs up to cancel it out
Thanks for your thoughts

I believe that the skip shift is indeed for fuel economy, but not the way you are thinking. By using the skip shift I think that Chevrolet just slid in under the wire on avoiding the gas guzzling tax. Could be wrong, but I thought I read that somewhere recently. My Formula has the same thing, and disabling it was the first mod I put in. Will do the same when I get my C7 next summer.

I too understand that it helps GM avoid the gas guzzler tax on its manual shift performance cars. All my new V8 6 speeds have had skip shift(02 Formula, 04 GTO, 06 GTO, 10 2SS Camaro, & 14 Corvette) and all avoided the guzzler tax. Automatic GTO's all had the GG tax and automatic V8 Camaro's have 26 less HP with added AFM to avoid it.

traditionally, skip shift or computer aided gear selection (CAGS) comes into play under the following conditions:

* you're in 1st gear
* you're at 35% throttle or less
* you're between 15 and 21 mph
* engine coolant temperature is greater than 171 F (77 C)

instead of rev, clutch, rev, clutch, rev, clutch to get from 1st to 4th gear, it forces you to go straight from 1st to 4th in an effort to get better fuel economy in low speed/city driving.

its supposed to be less invasive with the C7 over prior vehicles, but still there.

there are numerous options for disabling it as well.
