Cheated!!
well in this thread,i'd like to hear from my mechanics out there!!
i'm 21 right now and i've heard PLENTY of sleazy trick mechanics use to cheat the people,so i've decided to have us as a group flame them,or tell your story about where u've been screwed over by em...oh bythe way, this leads me to saying i wont be visiting mechanics much longer..i'm going to school to learn to do everything myself..become a great mechanic so my camaro can be in top shape,i hope i can later do my own upgrades |

this really did happen to me...on a 1995 chrysler new Yorker i had..i went to a local shop, being hispanic,i went to a "good mechanic"..or so i was told by a friend,he tells me my starter's failing, which it was,but i tell him ok,do the job,...so after about 2 hours its done,ok,cool right? WRONG!!! i get in..everything's cool, and my dad takes a good look over,my dad's a old schol grease monkey himself, but he's lazy, then he says..how much were u charged?..i reply..about 250..he gets it,he tell me to get in,we go back, and my dad wresks havok in the shop..turns out they took it off, gave it a good scrubbing..put it back on..and kept a new started for themselve's..they did the job and refunded my money..ha!... the end with a happy ending |

Holy Crap! I can't believe that! I've never been to Jiffy Lube, but I won't be going now.... And then to have the district Manager deny his identity, and claim a Camaro as his own?!?! HOW Dare Damn, I knew there were crooked mechanics out there, but not that bad. |

That's why I do my own work. Or I let my stepdad take care of it at his work (He works for a concrete pumping/construction company)

Great video! This is why I'm glad that the guy who works on my truck is my dad's good friend.

Huh, you'd think because they are a part of a huge chain that they would do the work right, guess not. Dealerships suck. Once, my Mom went into the Toyota dealership, and they wanted to charge her a little over $300 for 1 ...ONE..replacement hubcap. I was mad. Ofcourse she didn't get it lol.

I used to go to Jiffy Lube. Then they charged me for replacing the alternator and battery in my wife's car and they didn't replace the battery. I noticed it the next day, and of course, they denied it. I've never been back since. I use the mechanics at the gas station next to my work. I see them every day when I get sodas or whatever there. You should definitely try to use someone you can get to know. These guys have been great and totally honest. There have been a few times where they have recommended that I get some service done and I say "Okay, go ahead." only to have them say that they don't perform that service. You know they're being honest with you if they're not going to make money off of their recommendation.
I would do oil changes myself, but disposing of the old oil is a superior pain in the ass. I don't even know where I could take it around here. |

My first Camaro, the second car I owned, was purchased from a mechanic. It lasted about a week before it suddenly wouldn't start at all. I replaced the fuel filter, checked the lines, and all the sensors. I knew it was a fuel problem, so I finally took it to a shop to check the fuel pump. Anyone who's had an '85 Camaro knows that it's not the easiest thing to access. When the guy got to it, he found that the guy who sold it to me had tried to fix the pump himself, but rather than remove the old one and add in a new one, he just spliced the new one in on top of the old one.
After that, it worked fine, for the most part, until I had to sell it due to rising insurance costs and speeding tickets. It was lucky for me that I did. Within a couple of weeks the radiator "blew up". It's now sitting outside with leaky T-Tops and puddles of water and ice all over the seats and floorboards. The worst part about it is that as soon as I bought the car, the guy I bought it from disappeared off the face of the earth. He stopped showing up for work at the shop, and his Cell Phone was cut off. 1 year later... Not having learned my lesson, I bought another car from a mechanic where my car had broken down 250 miles from home. This car lasted me about a month before one of the tires blew up on the freeway, and it slowly started losing horsepower. Turns out the transmission was crap. My next car was bought new from a respectable dealership. Needless to say, I'm never buying anything from a mechanic again. I think Navy's got the right idea, I'm hoping to get some training myself so I can not only know what half you guys are talking about, but I can fix and mod my own cars without worrying about getting cheated. |
