Pretty good article

Quote:
Demon's name is lifted from a tarted-up Dodge Dart back in the 1970s. Called a "roadster with an attitude" by the automaker, the vehicle is powered by Chrysler's 2.4-liter world engine found in several of its U.S. offerings which kicks out 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Top speed is an estimated 130 mph.

The vehicle is underpinned by an all-new platform, according to the automaker, and could take the Caliber SRT-4's 300-horse turbo version of the 2.4-liter global engine if it reaches production in order to take on the 260 horespower, turbo-powered GXP Solstice/Sky Redline...

...How realistic is this concept? The Demon's unveiling at Geneva hints at production viability and Chrysler says a drivable prototype will be available soon. The Demon's biggest hurdle is the intended price. Chrysler officials say they could undercut the Solstice and Miata's $20,000 or so base price by five grand with a production version, meaning you could have one of these for the price of a stripped Jeep Compass.
First off, I've heard Rumors of GM putting a V6 into the Solctice/Sky. If they do, the Demon doesn't stand a chance.

Second...$15,000 car? Probably using plastic everywhere they can...(cough) interior (cough)

To me, it looks like a lot of cars coming out....you know, where they let one designer (team) design from the front through the doors, then they let another designer (team) draw from the doors to the back. Slap them together and see what you get.....

The other "design method" I think so many automakers have been using is spend a lot of time designing the front and the middle of the car, then with a week before it's supposed to debut somewhere, "just slap some nasty looking back end on the thing and roll with it". Half the time, it looks like they had something really decent going and then just chopped it off at the back to "finish it up in time".

For the record, Dodge has had this idea (small, lightweight, 2 seat, roadster) for awhile now (Razor, Demon, others), they just haven't executed it. They should....maybe the new ownership will get it out the door and start taking some of those Mazda/Honda sales.

Yeah, but what would you expect for $15K?

If they can do it at that price, it will sell like the original Miata did. Way over sticker, but there won't be one left on a dealer's lot anywhere. $15K for a roadster with decent looks and performance that will still get 25mpg? People will buy that to have a decent gas mileage car in their garage and drive something else in the winter months (for those of us that have that problem). Shoot, you could almost get 2 of them and put them in the same garage.....lol.

Sorry, bud. It was the 300th thread. Like most new threads, if it's already been discussed before, it gets merged to the original....hence the pre-existing "Dodge Demon Concept" thread you see here.

This pretty much my thoughts on it.

Dodge has been hit and miss with styling, imho. The charger and avenger nitro and this thing

engines, performance, interiors, and reliability are all seperate issues though

Personally, I like the Demon, and if I wasn't in the market for a Camaro I'd consider buying one (this Cerebus thing irks me). However, I like the Sky better, and it's a GM...

I see it this way...extreme coincidences, or lack of Chrysler originality...

Chevrolet Corvette (in it's full awsomeness):

Saturn Sky (a mini-Vette - lutz even said it took cues from it's cousin):

Now for the un-original part (as I see it)

Dodge Viper (in it's full...something):

and the Dodge Demon (see the connection I'm trying to make?)

As much as I may get 'boo'd' for this...

I find the Sky FAR more attractive than the Corvette.

Ever since they exposed the headlights on the Corvette I haven't liked it at all.

I can see that. I won't 'boo' you , I find the Sky very attractive, too. I've just always liked the Vette's essence, what it was - An Icon. I don't think it changed (the 'essence') when they exposed the lights, though.
