The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same. Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different. I can't wait for my next Track fix. So is this the same style of differential that the Z/28 uses? I know they call the Z/28 differential a "Helical Gear" differential. And from what I can see in their video this differential is a bunch of helical gears.
Just trying to educate myself a little more here on the differences. Thanks for posting this link TBone! Very educational and interesting.

All of the helical gear differentials are pretty similar, with bias ratios and perhaps durability for hard launches being the main differences (some of the Torsens are relatively fragile when subjected to that kind of abuse). There is, or at least was, a version of the Torsen that also included some means of obtaining preload (T2R).
On edit, I think you have to be careful about what sort of lube and particularly additives you use with any of these diffs. If you reduce the friction, or reduce it too far, the diff won't work right. I know I read that about the Quaife diffs somewhere or other. Norm |
