Gas Usage
How much gas do you think you use?
I am planning to get an SS but I am worried that it will guzzle down gas fast. Is it a a sizable difference between the V6 and V8 usage? What would be the monthly cost if you had to round it. |

I don't think the v6 and v8 are that much different in mpg. I think the turbo 4 would save you more money

My SS with the A8 gets excellent gas mileage imo for a 455 horse v8, my commute is probably 65% Highway 35% city and I average 26ish mpg with a good bit of spirited driving mixed in there. Cruising at highway speeds I can get over 30 mpg fairly easily. Go with the 6.2, you won’t regret it.

Look if you are worried about gas mpg's get a honda. I get 16 mpg avg but I drive it like a Camaro not my beater DD. It will suck as much gas as your foot allows!!!!

I barely drive so I'm not a good example BUT my average MPG is 23 and that included some terrible traffic. The V8 is really freaking efficient if you have self control.

My 2018 SS 6.2 liter turns into a V4 when cruising on the highway.

Go with the V8 - no regrets.
I do mostly city/local driving, so that sometimes kills my mpg. Cruising, though, can yield 30+ mpg in V4 mode. I got around 28 mpg this weekend on a trip from NJ to NH~ 250 miles, and used only 1/2 tank one-way. Same on the return trip. Lots of hills, though, so the V8 mode was kicking in A LOT (CT rt 15!). It's a sports car, though...don't forget that. |

This. But if you are worried about it you should probably think about what vehicle you want. If you are dead set on the Camaro and want the V8 and can afford it and the gas, then get it.

***** Yup, right now, actual with 50/50 driving I'm getting 29.3~ish actual, display indicates 23.9. A couple stretches of 90mph, too. All dependent on how hard you push down with right foot. (HP- needs gas) |

Camaro, while a great sports car is not the most efficient. The SS gets all the attention- and always will. The car is fairly heavy and for it's size and weight gets pretty good mileage. My Gen 5 SS manual 6 speed did not do well- I got 19 average driving with a feather light foot- getting my foot into it I would literally see the gas gage drop and fast. It's one of reasons I traded it for my Gen 6 with the V6. I now have the V6 with an A8 and it does OK- depends how I drive it. If I step on it around town it will get only in the teens. Highway driving say 50-55 it will get 31. Faster than that say 65-70, it drops to 28 or so. My all around average is around 25- and it takes regular gas keeping the cost down. I don't drive it every day- it's my weekend car- it uses too much fuel- I drive 100 miles a day round trip and I have a Fiesta ST, which I get 36.5- which still adds up to $160 a month.
It's really interesting how, in my experience owning a lot of different cars which ones get the best MPG- driving light footed and when stepping on it. In my opinion Camaros guzzle gas when stepped on- V6 or V8. My little Fiesta ST with only a 1.6L also does. Yet they do pretty good when driven very gently. I will share my experience and say that I had only two cars which yielded the best MPG when driven both lightly and hard- my 2016 WRX and my 2016 Mazda Miata. WRX yielded 32 average and 38-40 on the highway and the MX5 yielded 36.5 average- and that included spirited driving. Corvettes also get good gas mileage. My 1985 C4 gets better than my Camaro- light weight, low coefficient of drag and low RPM.
