I thought I remembered a big recall on those...bout the fires. Obviously not saying anything here nor am I trying to rain on your parade. Shoot, I think it's awesome you getting a car now and get to work on it to bring it back. I know what you mean about money....it's the story of everyone's lives. But, save a buck here and work some there and you'll get it running again. I wonder how finding parts for it will be.

Nice car though Shank I remember being around 16 finding "Aphrodite" (what I named my '69) for sale on the road, and now that I am (finally..) about to restore her it makes it all the more special. I'm sure you'll have fond memories after restoring her for sure. and hey...who can go wrong with free, right? |

The supercharged Buick/Pontiac engine is a popular swap and it doesn't add much more weight to the car then the V-6 that origional came in the Fiero GT. My boss is a Fiero nut. He has the N/A 3800 V6 in his.

yeah Fieros are GREAT little cars, the best ones to get (if you can find em) is the 88 model with the lotus suspensions. my dad had a 88 Formula coupe (basically the GT but with the base model's bodywork). the great thing about those cars is almost ANY front drive GM drivetrain will drop in there as the Fiero's rear end was based on early 80s front drive platform and the front end was believe it or not chevrolet chevette/pontiac 1000 . sure you can put V8s like the a LT1 or a LS series V8 (ls1, ls2, ls3, etc). but I seen cars with mid 80s and up caddy motors and northstars. all you really need is aftermarket half shafts to handle the the torque those motors put out (you can retain the stock transmissions, just swap the Fiero half shafts for the tougher ones). there is a online store that sells stuff like that for those cars, go here: http://www.fierostore.com/ .
edit that link is for stock Fiero parts, i am not sure if they carry the beefier halfshafts or not. but if they do cool, if not, i am sure there are places out there that do, just do a search for 'Fiero V8 conversion parts' and just get the shafts .

I think an LS4 out of an Impala SS would make that car scream. I'll pay for it but then you have to let me drive it whenever I want.

a friend of mine is doing exactly that right now. We got the engine in, just working on the wiring now and it should be ready to roar pretty soon. |

my fave is still the 'northstar' swap. 300 horse all alloy V8 that is probably the same weight as the 2.8 iron block 6 that was in MOST of those cars. i knew a guy in Daytona Beach that had one with a bottle of NOS in the rear compartment between the end of the car and the engine bay. he said when the system was on and was using the NOS, he was over 400hp!
