Check engine light?

So my 2011 ss has been getting a check engine light. The weird thing is when I use mycruise control for about 10-20 miles the check engine light comes on. When I check it with my fault reader there is no code and the light goes away. It'll drive my car for 300 to 400 miles but the soon as I place the cruise control on about 20 minutes later the light comes on with no code on my reader.

Any thoughts or experience?

Hmmm, that's odd.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night...so let me have a go at this.

OP is getting:

-Check Engine light on stock 2011 L99
-CEL illuminates after 10-20 min of driving with cruise on only
-No code generated (seen) by OBDII reader

OP is sure it is a CEL...the yellow picture of an engine.

Does it blink or stay on solid?
Can your reader see permanent codes too? What model is the reader you are using?

No codes. No issues. Only happens when cruise is engaged. Are theses lights still as stupid as in the past? I'm thinking a loose wire or something. Perhaps the computer sees throttle is engaged but it's not getting a signal at all from gas peddle. Or something stupid like that.

If you are getting a cel light it should store the code in the history section of the log when you use a code reader. It sounds like you are saying that there is no history. I use a bluetooth code reader and the Torque program. You can check as you drive with this and see if there is a code currently or a defective light.

OP, are you sure that's not the "Cruise Control Engaged" light you're getting?

2Carats, that was where I was headed with the statement that the OP was sure it was a yellow light that looked like an engine. He said it came on minutes after engaging cruise...but I just can't seem to figure out why the code can't be read unless he reader is at fault. Normally it takes a few cycles of the ignition + time to auto clear anything that sets a light.

The reader I am using is my bully dog. Was able to pull up codes in the past for minor things like gas cap off and stuff.

The light is the check engine light it is not the cruise control set light.

Light pops on solid and stays. If you shut the car off and turn it on about 3 times the light is gone. When it turns on the car still runs perfect no problems. I also toke it to a dealership and autozone and no codes pop up it isnt just mybully dog

1. Call OnStar while you are driving and the light is on. Get them to run a diagnostic.
2. If no codes, let me ask, how old is your battery?

subscribed. OP, please keep us informed of this outcome, either with Onstar intervention or otherwise. It is quite perplexing that you get a light but no code set. I want to learn more on this situation.
