I just put a light mist on mine, it doesn't take a lot, especially with that cover protecting it too

The instructions on the CAI website say not to use heat sources as it may shrink the filter media.

Step 5. Dry - Allow the filter to air dry naturally. (DO NOT use heat sources in attempt to dry the filter faster as this may damage the filter media fibers and/or shrink them.)

The filter has been setting for a couple days drying. Will take another shot at oiling it on Sunday or Monday...will update.

No you are not suppose to use heat to dry the filter . It can shrink the cotton material . Says it in the instructions from K&N if I remember right .
If you are in a sunny climate and you know its not going to rain for a little while just set it out in the sun to dry.

Cleaning K&N filters isn't that hard . Just follow the instructions . The biggest thing is to not over oil the filter when spraying the oil on them .

Yes, so I've already been told. Step one-throughly read ALL instructions!
