Changing Oil at 500 Miles

From my research, GM recommended changing the oil after 500 miles to combat the early production engine failures. Does anyone know if this is still recommended for the newer model years ('18)?

Thanks

I was told it was still a requirement for Dry sump motors which the Z06 has. Unless something has changed the 500 mile service is free of charge.

Per the 2018 Corvette Owners manual, page 300, both the oil and filter are to be changed at 500 miles on engines equipped with the dry sump system. This oil/filter change is covered by Chevrolet under their Complete Care Program. You should also get 2 additional oil changes within the 1st 2yr/24,00 mile period at no charge under this program. Your dealer should have covered this during delivery but take some time and read your manual to see if there is anything else you should know.. Oil Changes covered by the Complete Care program are to use only Mobile 1 oil. See following link for additional information http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...le.php?id=1359

I was told the early change oil is for removal of any debries from production.

This started with 2014 Vette’s with the dry sump engines , which was part of the Z 51 package on the Corvette. reason was some of the adhesives and sealants they used to put together the dry sump system, can interact with the oil and tend to foam the oil at high rpm leading to an engine to burp oil back into the air cleaner. They have just continued this practice on with all the dry sump systems since then. That being said, most enthusiast will change oil somewhere before 1500 miles to just flush manufacturing debris in the engine, shavings, particles etc from the engine bedding in.

The original recall that changed to a 500 change:

Something not to hesitate with, get the change, any of Glen's advise is right on.

For peace of mind, do it. Besides, changing the oil is not too expensive.

Thanks for the info, I follow the manual too, I change the oil every 500 miles, but I use different oils in different seasons, here https://casperoilchange.com/15w-40-diesel-oils/ Best 15W-40 Diesel Oil are good options for diesel cars, I use these oils in my trucks

It is not necessary to change the oil in a car at 500 miles, as the manufacturer will usually recommend an oil change interval between3,000 and 5,000 miles. However, if you want to change the oil at 500 miles, you can do so. it is important to make sure that you use the correct type of oil and oil filter for your specific make and model of car.
