Z07

What is it in the Z07 package that increases the lateral grip so much? Just a mrc recalibration and better tires?

Stage 3 aero, tires and suspension tweaks (mrc recal and I think slightly stiffer springs.)

I have always been curious to see a Z07 car on stock MPSS run through grip testing to see how much it loses. Also the opposite of adding Sport Cups on a non Z07 car would be an interesting test.

The extra grip seems awsome, but I don't want the z07 brakes.

You can swap out the CCBs for non-ceramics and you'll save $$$ on replacement costs.

Or, get a Stage 2 with steelies, but you won't have the PSC2 tires, Z07 specific suspension bits or the different MRC tuning. You would still be able to get the Stage 3 front end caps and rear center bridge.

If you're set on the performance characteristics of the Z07, then it will be cheaper in the long-run to just swap out the CCBs.

Though, you'll want to be very careful DD on PSC2 tires. They're much less forgiving in inclement weather than the MPSS tires are.

The extra power in the Z06 isn't what I'm after it is the handling. My current car is plenty fast for the street and any vette will be at least marginally faster. I ask about the Z07 because of the upcoming grand sport and figured this would be the best place to ask about it.
I'm trying to decide between 2LT or 2LT Z51 or grand sport or grand sport Z07. This will be 100% DD and I'm just looking for an option that provides better handling than my 2016 camaro ss mrc.

That's why I said a stage 2 or to take off CCB. You said you didn't like Z07 brakes and the Z07 version on the GrandSport will have those same CCBs. So you're still going to have the same issue there. Being full DD you'll still need to watch out for the PSC2 tires as they have low tread life and don't handle as well in inclement weather.

Unless I was tracking the car on a very regular basis, I'd rather have the Z07 brakes and Z06 std tires. Better braking and better tire wear. I tried to do a special order to get that combination and couldn't.

Regardless of whatever tires are on the car, you have to sign a disclaimer for Michelin that the tires are not recommended to be driven below 40 degrees, (read - no traction).
And yes, from personal experience, they are dangerous when cold.

Get a grand sport without the 07 package and there is a lot of companies that you can get the ground effects and spoiler....for example the stage two gurney flap spoiler buckets are just $130 in the bolts right onto the stock spoiler

The Z07 tires will last you approx 3-500 miles... Let that sink in... They are truly track tires and are closer to gum balls than street car rubber....

And good luck in the rain... I have FELT the tires of both side by side and the ZO7 tires have very little channeling.

Don't try and swap tires either as the ABS sensor is calibrated for the super sticky tires if u buy the Z07 package...

The stock GS with still pull 1.07-1.10 G

I say this because the 1LE Camaro pulled 1.09 on tires with a good daily driver wear rating... And the 1LE has smaller rubber than GS

FYI....
On the Z07, the MS Cup tires will last a lot longer than 3-500 miles.
Street driving will get upwards of 12-14K.
Track driving, not so much.

I ran a Z06 w Z07 at Sprint Mountain earlier this year. Per PDR data loaded into Cosworth tool box, max lateral G's was 1.36g with instructor driving. My best was 1.17g. I have a friend there this week and he will be driving a Z51. I should have access to his data next week. I'll post it when I get it. I would guess the Grand Sport even w/o Z07 would still be closer to the Z06 than the z51.

I wanted the same combo and opted not to get the Z07 package. As far as the tires and cold weather.... ever fish tailed at 60 MPH on the freeway? been there done that, 40d that morning.
