When did owning an SS become uncool ?
Hey all,
I'm new(er) to the Camaro5 community but a carry over from the 4th generation, ls1tech, and the owner of a 99 SS in addition to my newly acquired 15' 2SS RS. I've never really started a discussion thread with the intent to open up a debate but after doing quite a bit of reading on the forums i'm finding a lack of compelling evidence of pride in the owners of the SS badged fifth gens. Most commonly i see threads of ZL1/Z28 owners littered with comments from drooling fan boys. Don't get me wrong they are beautiful cars but unobtainable for a lot of us out there. Back in the day, in my opinion, you were one fly guy if you had an SS camaro. Now it seems like your just another brick in the wall if thats "all you've got" . I'm interested to hear some other SS owners opinions on this..... |

Because people normally don't do gawd awful tacky mods to z28/zl1 for the most part. So it's still a pure car. People seek that. And then they turn their care into some awful "I bought everything off the appearance parts section of my parts distributor"
Billboard The Z are still respectable. Less can be said for some turd on 24s and flow masters. LSX376 SLP TVS2300 '13 1LE Full front half protected by Xpel PPF Instagram:@Failshift 603hp/547tq 1LE Owners Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/559684050767758/ |

I love an SS! I still drool over them when I see a nice one! I was going to get one and then modify it and beat the hell out of it, but instead decided to get the ZL1 and leave it alone (for the most part). I love it just the way it is... doesn't mean I don't give props to SS owners! They're great cars!

The reason I got the 1LE was b/c I saw so many RS/SS's on the road and wanted something different.
I knew I couldn't dish out 60k+ for a car but the 1LE imo is more affordable and still pretty rare. And yes, it is somewhat irritating when I see so many tacky mods done to camaro's. The huge rims, weird paint jobs, fake vents, etc.

I had a 2010 SS I owned from July 2009 until Dec 2012. I put about $10k in mods into it, then decided it was time to move on. Never seen what you are talking about because the ZL1/Z28 discussions are in their own sections. However, I'm sure plenty of SS owners will chime in about how anyone that buys a ZL1 or Z28 is an idiot because you can have one for dinner with a few bolt-ons to your SS, blah, blah, blah

to the forum OP! Love being part of the SS family. Playing around on the chevy web sight, had to order me a 1LE. Most uncool decision that I have ever made.

Hats off to you Ragnar most 1LE owners tend to disassociate from the base SS cars lol! it did cost more to get the car track ready but it was great to work on the car myself it's a sweet car!

Hasn't become uncool for me, and probably never will - but I'm still living like it's 1979 when I graduated from high school and the SS was the stuff. Keeps down the cost of being happy - don't need the latest and greatest anything! :-)
