'17 1LE or '13 ZL1?

I've been planning to order the 1LE this summer for quite a while... and it looks amazing. However, I've recently discovered that my local dealer has a '13 ZL1 on the lot with 1500 miles listed at $43k. I'm sure I could bring that down a good bit and get it for close to the price of a base '16 1SS.

If you were in this position, would you wait and spend a little more on a brand new 1LE, or go for the monster ZL1 that's older, but still pretty much brand new?

I don't plan on buying anything for a while anyway, but I'm just curious what you guys would do in that situation! I never realized you could get a ZL1 for that low.

I'd go for the 1LE because I like the lighter, more athletic chassis, and NA power. If you want easy dyno numbers with cheap parts though, ZL1 all the way.

My choice:
1.- '17 SS 1LE
2.- 5th. gen ZL1
I pass on the regular 6th.gen SS

2017 1LE. So much more car.
I would suspect it would outperform the ZL1 in everything except in a straight line.

The off idle torque and supercharger whine of the ZL1 is quite intoxicating. At the end of the 1/4 miles the are pretty close due to the 600lbs of extra mass on the ZL1. The interior on the new Camaro seems like a much nicer place to be. A bit more cramped but the materials and tech are better.

I assume the ZL1 is manual if you are comparing to a 1LE. If you are into the rev matching tech than you will enjoy that on the new SS. The ZL1 gets MRC but now you can order that on the SS.

I drive a 2SS 1LE now. It is a great car but its shortcoming is the weight. If you can shed weight the car just comes alive and you don't need as much power to get it to dance. Just look at the new SS, it puts down similar numbers with despite the 125hp and 110lb ft tq delta. If you plan to track the car get the 1LE, if you are just cruising the streets get an SS with NPP, MRC and rev matching manual.

I used to have a 2002 Corvette Z06. I did a cam, long tube headers, etc. At only 3100lbs and over 400hp to the wheels it was a blast. The lighter the car the more fun it will be to toss around.

'17 SS 1LE...that 5th gen interior is a mega deal breaker...and the '17 will be a much better track car.

The '17 1LE will probably perform at least as well as the ZL1 around a track. The car will feel remarkably lighter, more nimble. You'll be giving up some creature comforts that the ZL1 has over the new cars, but not many.

I would say the ZL1 is the best route to take if you want brute power.

The '17 1LE would be the best nimble/agile road course car.

Not sure what you are looking for in a ZL but when we were shopping camaro's we found a red ZL1 listed on cars.com at Sunnyside Chevy in Ohio. Can't remember the exact miles but I'm pretty sure it was less than 500 miles and they shot us the number of $44,500 just over the phone without even trying to haggle. Just FYI

Yeah, the dealership I mentioned in first post actually has two '13 ZL1's on the lot with less than 5k miles on each advertised for $43k and $44k. Pretty sure at this point I could get them down to aroudn $38-39k fairly easily. It's tempting.

But the weight differential really makes me wonder... the '16 1ss already has 455hp which is more than I would ever need. Would just be fun to have that extra power.

Damn. Might as well get the ZL1 if you are looking at those numbers. My .02

I am obviously going for the 1LE but the used ZL1 will cost you much less in depreciation. I see the ZL1 bottoming out around $30k.
