Yes, you would have suppliers and a lot of folks involved but if you simply tell a supplier they are working on an LT1 they wouldn't know either.

But keeping an engine program secret is not that hard as long as everyone involved stays quiet.
Yeah, I'm sure it's pretty easy to hide another standard small block. The 5.2 Voodoo is really out there for Ford so it must have been hard to keep under wraps.

I checked at FastestLaps.com and they don't have any times for the GT350.

There haven't been that many on-track reviews of the car, for some reason.

The only lap time I know of for the GT350/R is Chuckwalla against the Z/28.

Yeah, my guess is Chuckwalla is to the benefit of the Gt350R.

We'll be leaving the shop later today to head down to Charlotte for the OPTIMA / USCA event at Z-Maxx and the Speedway.

Ounces make pounds and one wiper saves a couple of pounds. As we work late hours we draw our inspiration form a number of sources.

The MavTV crew will be on hand.from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, July 29th along with 15 OPTIMA custom builds.

Advance Auto Parts,
264 Concord Pkwy S
Concord, NC

A full sweep one wiper system removed more than a few ounces from this build.

Why doesn't GM do something like this?

"Power Pack 1, which will be available starting August 1 at a price of $539, includes a K&N high-flow air filter and nets peak gains of 13 hp and 16 lb-ft of torque over the stock GT's 435 hp and 400 lb-ft. At 1,500 rpm, torque improves by 40 lb-ft. For $949, Power Pack 2 upgrades to a GT350 cold air intake and 87-mm throttle body for peak gains of 21 hp and 24 lb-ft. Torque at 1,500 rpm also increases by 40 lb-ft. The GT350 hardware and adapter are available as separate upgrades without the calibration, priced at $539, and come with an industry-exclusive open air filter with a California Air Resources Board (CARB) EO exemption number. Power Pack 2 will be available beginning in September.

Finally, Power Pack 3 includes the GT350 cold air intake, larger throttle body, and a GT350 intake manifold. Those bits grant an extra 37 hp and 51 lb-ft at peak, and 60 more horsepower at 7,500 rpm. The manifold includes a CARB EO number. How much will those additional ponies cost you when Power Pack 3 arrives in October? A whopping $2,395."

They don't want to kill the aftermarket business? or it's too small of a market to get involved with trying to validate those components.

Because they aren't the ones playing catch up, Ford is.

Right out of the box, a bone stock SS would still at least match GT with the performance pack & power pack 3 both at the strip and around a road course.

Or, to think about it another way ... GM is giving everyone the performance without nickel and dimeing them with options just to get it on par with the competition.

GM could do this and I hope they do. I had the GMPP calibration in my Sky Redline and it was a very noticeable improvement.

It's not difficult to do this and some will ask why this isn't stock. Well it's cost for one and 2nd the failure rate will go up on a stock engine with increased power. So you then have to increase the cost of your content to a higher level to handle the added stress.

But a unique higher performance calibration can be developed with out a huge amount of work. But it is work and it would require testing and validation.

So would you pay $2,400 for a warranty covered 40 HP? I might if you can roll into the purchase price.

This is will be a limited market, but we'll see if GM responds.

I agree with your points, however I don't see this from GM's point of view as a way to compete with Ford, but to control the aftermarket of their products while profiting at the same time.

There's definitely a desire for such things. I can tell you that a number of people who own Camaros and Corvettes would jump to buy from the factory a way to make the LT1 a 500 HP motor. (Raises hand!) C'mon New GM think outside the Old GM box!
