Good Tech article about the Eaton Trutrac

Check it out....

The Eaton Truetrac LSD and a Road-Raced Fifth Gen Camaro

I will do a copy/paste later.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

So is this the same style of differential that the Z/28 uses? I know they call the Z/28 differential a "Helical Gear" differential. And from what I can see in their video this differential is a bunch of helical gears.

Just trying to educate myself a little more here on the differences.

Thanks for posting this link TBone! Very educational and interesting.

All of the helical gear differentials are pretty similar, with bias ratios and perhaps durability for hard launches being the main differences (some of the Torsens are relatively fragile when subjected to that kind of abuse). There is, or at least was, a version of the Torsen that also included some means of obtaining preload (T2R).

On edit, I think you have to be careful about what sort of lube and particularly additives you use with any of these diffs. If you reduce the friction, or reduce it too far, the diff won't work right. I know I read that about the Quaife diffs somewhere or other.

There was something in the article text or a sidebar to the article that stated pretty much exactly what you say here. Eaton says not to use any limited slip modifier with this differential and they even say that they recommend good ole regular gear oil as opposed to even synthetics because many of the synthetics can be even too slippery by themselves that they can interfere with proper operation of this differential. One case where more slippery isn't always better!
