2010 handling issues

Hi from NZ. Have recently bought a 2010 ls3 ss. Just fitted 285/35/20 and 305/35/20 tyres on zl1 copy rims. My problem is the car handles like a dog on ice if the road isn't smooth (which none of them are over here). I have checked all bushes etc and set alignment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Baldyz.

I'm so very confused. Can you please describe your problem more clearly. Explain exactly what the car is not doing that you want it to do.

I ask because your stated issue of "handling like a dog on ice", your tire size, and the things you checked on your car, all suggest that you expect the car to behave on ice the same way it might handle in other situations, no matter what tires you put on.

What tires are you running? Summer, all-season? Brand?

I think he wanted to say, "My car is like a 'dog on ice' whenever I'm driving on rough roads, it doesn't handle well at all unless I'm on a nice smooth road."

We need some pictures of your car and maybe some of the road! Are you going fast over a bumpy curvy road and the car just doesn't handle?

Do your "ZL1 copy rims" have the same widths and offsets as "real" ZL1 rims?

How many miles are on your car? Are you still running on the original shocks & struts?

I realize that it is winter down there during July, though I don't know what that really means temperature-wise. As suggested above, what tires (mfr & model, please). What inflation pressures are you running them at?

Does the car have any power upgrades?

Sure but what does "handle like a dog" mean? It's vague. Oversteer, push, harsh ride, no traction...what is the problem.

"Why did the Red Sox lose again?" "BECAUSE THEY SUCK!"

That tells me little. If you were to tell me the Sox stranded 5 players on base in the last two innings, I might be able to suggest a fix. See what I mean?

But NZ is on the opposite side of the world, so I think that he is trying to say that his car handles great!

Everything is upside down in NZ and AU, that's why your car isn't handling well. Should've bought a Holden, they are tuned to run upside down.

Thanks for all the comments. I am starting to think I should of stuck with the 2 HSV,s that I traded for the Camaro. The rims are meant to be exact copies 20x11 rears and I think 20x10 fronts, tyres are Pirelli P Zero 104y rears and 100y fronts. " Handling like a dog on ice" is probably a bit exaggerated, when driving on all but the smoothest roads, the front end will follow any slight deviation or rut in the seal (tram lining as if it has a crook ball joint), very twitchy feeling through the steering, constantly correcting, just dosn't feel stable, pressures are 36psi, set the alignment to factory ss specs (are zl1 specs different?) It is winter but no snow or ice where we are. Thanks, Baldyz.

Sounds like the nature of the beast. It may be the Pirelli's. That's all I've had so far on my car so I don't know if different tires would help. But I think it's cause they're so wide, any ruts in the road seem to become like train tracks that the car was to jump on and follow.

Mine doesn't do that. I'm running BFG G Force Sport Comp 2s
