Powder coated wheels - Carbon Flash Metallic
Over the weekend I decided to have my Local powder coater (ESPO's Powdercoating) to powder coat my wheels to match the Carbon Flash Metallic found on my spoiler, mirrors and vents. I believe it looks great and way better than getting the black factory finish! Let me know what you think.

It not only looks good but will last a lot longer, after a year many of the black wheels are starting to show chips as it is std car paint, not powdercoat.

looks awesome, how much. Will have to consider doing something like this when my wheels don't look like they do now.

Contact Espo's powder coating or your local powder shop, prices varies and so does quality.

Out of curiosity, is the powder coat applied over the factory paint, or do the wheels get stripped bare first? It's a given the tires and pressure sensors are demounted for the coating process.
Those look great!

I'm almost positive that they sandblast the wheels first in preparation before applying the Powdercoat......

I think you're right - they would have to be bare metal before powder coating. I doubt the factory paint would stand up to the heat during baking, making a huge mess of things.

They do not have to be bare metal....mjw30 over on the other forum has outlined how its done, the paint can stay once its been treated in some way.
From Mark - TPJ is the powdercoater that has the contract for American Honda and another mfr - they are in Jax, Fl Mark wrote: TPJ didn't take them to bare metal, they just did a light sand to clean off the existing paint and smooth out any imperfections. I imagine smaller shops may either think they need to strip or don't have strong enough charge equipment to get the powder to adhere over a painted surface. Think of it like using a magnet on a painted fridge, you don't need metal to metal contact to make it stick. TPJ did these for mark, on the left is base pewter silver basecoat, then the right is another coat of dark silver powdercoat and clear gloss powdercoat for a unique z51 look:

Powder Color?
Love the wheels NewJerseyCamaroSS. I have been planning on doing that exact same thing for some time now. My OEM paint is chipping horribly and it only has 6K miles. Do you know the name of the color used to coat your wheels? I am having trouble finding a match at my local powder shops.

Wow, hylton264, those look rough! I have nearly 30K miles on mine, and my wheels don't have near the chips yours do. Almost looks like you drive on gravel roads....powder coat will definitely help you!
