Edmunds '14 SLP Panther Camaro Long Term Review

http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/cam...roduction.html

It's an interesting read.

I have a couple questions hopefully our learned members can answer:

1) What does the dealer say when one of these conversions rolls into the service bay looking for warranty work. I'd think the originating dealer would work with you. What about the dealer you need to see when out of town?

2) The new Z/28 and most of the aftermarket performance intakes are open air filter elements, yet this "high-end" intake is just the factory air box with a different filter and air tube (maybe a scoop also?). Are the open air filters more looks than function?

Don't have any answers for you, but I did read somewhere that the factory intake is highly efficient... it is the factory filter that sucks (or maybe doesn't suck enough).

1) Unless you're going in for warranty work. Why would they say anything?

From the article:

"Furthermore, it's covered by SLP's 5-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. All other parts and systems affected are covered for 3 years/36,000 miles, matching the Camaro's factory warranty."

The powertrain warranty is held by SLP. The other parts of the warranty are held by GM.

True. But I'd think due to the mods the Chevy dealer isn't going to fix much of anything under a GM warranty. I'd think SLP would have to cover the warranty repairs but that would have to be at one of their "authorized" dealers.

1. I've heard before that these cars are a b*tch as far as warranty work. You have to send it to an authorized SLP dealer for the work.

2. Open air intakes are more than looks. They are able to grab more air than a stock, clunky, restrictive airbox. They are a must for anybody starting to mod. The internal combustion engine is an air pump. The faster you can get air in and get air out, the more power you'll make.

Nice looking car, only thing i didn't like was that boost gauge, looks pretty cheap and kind of "after-thoughtish". Also not sure about the shifter, kinda cool cuz it looks like the shifters out of the fourth gens, but then again it looks kinda bulky/old cuz it looks like it was out of a fourth gen.
