"Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high-performance automobiles.[1] The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."[2] A large V8 engine is fitted in a 2-door, rear wheel drive, family-style mid-size or full-size car designed for four or more passengers. Sold at an affordable price, muscle cars are intended for mainly street use and occasional drag racing.[3][4][5][6] They are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing. Developed simultaneously in their own markets, muscle cars also emerged from manufacturers in Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere."

I.
so you consider a V8 camaro "affordable" "family-styled" and "midsize" or "full size"

most people can't afford a nearly 40k car. muscle cars didn't cost 2X what the average car did. that's what made them special. they were basic production vehicles with large engine's. the average person COULD afford to buy one. that was a huge part of the muscle car, the affordability.

Why do we feel the need to label everything and stick it neatly into some mental compartment?

Sorry but people here are never going to agree on a label, other than maybe Camaro.

I just consider mine a Camaro. But also these V6 engines are pretty powerful, a lot more than some of the V8's in the early days too.

Based on your name maybe you could call it a "Rock-it Ship".

Ain't no Sports Car on this Earth that weighs 4,000 lbs and seats four. Kinda rules a Camaro right out.

To be honest, when I was in the Buick Performance Group, we didn't, really. It was a GN or GNX, that was a far as labels went.

a car is a sports car based on performance .
and any car that does .90g on the skidpad and 0-60 in under 5 is a sports car to me.
besides, there are Ferrari's that have backseats and weigh around 4,000 pounds.

Guy's and Gal's I'm 65 years old and graduated HS in 1965. I've been through the "muscle car years" in the mid to late 60s. This Camaro SS I drive is a Muscle Sports Car compared to those in the 60s. When we do 60 in 4.6 seconds and have a weight distribution of 51/49 with 20" wheels and tires along with a 6 speed transmission - that translates into a muscle sports car to me. The 60s muscle cars made a lot of noise spinning those old tires but these engineers have put it all together to cut the ETA down..........and they damn better to sell cars after 40+ years!
I love my SS Camaro.

There's Honda Accords that have better performance than my 1SS.

Not every Ferrari is a sportscar just because it's made by Ferrari.

Not saying Buick groups called it that but many car magazines of that period did.
