And don't forget the Z/28 is really just a run of the mill sports coupe with insane tires. So you really need the tire to make it a good car.

Lol .....sorry I couldn't help myself

You may be right. The only other Z28 I've seen on the road was coming towards me and right up the street from a Chevrolet dealer. It even had the huge, tacky looking writing across the entire front windshield referencing something like "$7000 Off!" (Car still looked menacing though...)

It's not a Toyota, or a Cadillac or a mini-van. Those buyers will test and compare. Most who buy Z/28's want THAT car.

I know exactly how things work. But it seems that given the choice, you would prefer to buy a new 120 mile Z/28 over one that has less than 15 miles because the dealer let you drive it? There's a nice one with only 58 miles in Alabama that the dealer will obviously let you take out if you'd like. Sounds like it needs tires though.

Don't compare a Malibu, Accord, Mini-van or Camaro to a Z/28. They are not built for the same purpose, they do not attract the same buyers and will be used very differently.

Techs who work on Z/28's have training for those cars, to keep them safe at high speeds, unlike the oil change tech who works on Chevy Sparks who does not have the same training.

I would not buy the Z/28 from this thread. Who of you would and who wouldn't?
  • Yes, I would take a low mileage on over an obviously abused one.
  • I am not associated with a dealer
  • The Z/28 is not a Camaro? (because I cant compare them )
  • They are the same Master Techs from Spark to Corvette.
  • There are more 1LE on track than Z/28s/ IE it was purpose built as a track car for speeds on track as well. (ref your don't compare a Z/28 to a Camaro)
  • Agreed people that want a Z/28 know it, some don't want the ride.
  • The Z/28 uses the same motor that has come in the Z06 for years and Carbon Ceramic brakes that do require a different maintenance, but they were also on the Vette first. (Not unique Z/28 training)
  • Yes, hourly oil change tech are very different then Certified Master mechanics
Your location is the Midwest....If you want to see another Z/28 and a 1LE equipped with Z/28 goodies put through their paces on a race track, you are welcome to sign up and drive or come out and watch on Sept 26th at Grattan Raceway near Grand Rapids MI. You will have a much better appreciation for the car. 3ballracing.com

I test drove a z28 at the dealer.
Had 10 miles on it and I drove it 4 miles.
I was the first person that they ever let drive a z28 before buying it.
The car is still on the lot there with the same mileage.
They wouldn't come down on price so I told them when it gets the 20% off deal to call me.
That was in May.

Speaking of sales people, I went to see a used on at the dealer. The guys were acting like it was too special to test drive and said that the "clients for those kind of vehicles" buy cash...lol

The whole time I was there...from when I arrived, whole time speaking to the manager and when I left, the sales guy was leaning on the car hard like it was his and he was at a car show(full body contact)...or like he needed it to stay up...like weekend at Bernie's ...hahahah

Went to 2 dealers last week to talk trucks and i told them upfront what i was looking for, Big V8(6.2) and max towing, dont care the color, and dont need 4 wheel drive, but it will not kill me, after they wast my time, i had to show them how to read, if it has 3.23 gears its not max tow.

If it has a 6.2 it has the 3.42 without the Max Pkg....then 3.73.

Wait 3-4 mos for the Gen6 to appear in showrooms and negotiate/take advantage of GM incentives. I seriously doubt they will have sold it. I agree those tires look a little beat on (compare them to the fronts).

They called me today, and said 54k if I go pick it up today. No one has expressed much personal experience with using the car as a DD though. I'm leaning toward keeping my 2012 boss 302 clone and the 2003 Z06.

Unless someone can sell me on using it everyday.

You can always get an on the cheap beater if DD becomes the deal breaker. My Z/28 is not my DD, but the day my DD breaks and is being repaired I know what I'm pulling out of the garage as the back-up plan. Food for thought:

How many miles are you likely to drive it per year?

Are you going to track the car, if so how often?

How long is your daily commute and how much of that time is spent sitting in traffic riding a clutch or tearing through the gears listening to the exhaust note?

Will you get a reasonable value on your trade-ins or private sell to make the deal work within your comfort ($) range?

Are you willing and able to pay the costs to properly maintain / operate the Z/28?

Good luck with your decision, my vote is BUY IT!
