This is going to be a repeat of last gen pony cars, mark my words. And Chevy will not drop the LT5 into a Camaro. Nor will they up the power to compete with their competition. They don't do that, never have, never will. They put out a product and sit on it for the few model years they need and then move on to a new gen. Besides, Re-R&Ding a setup on the same chassis/body/tech doesn't make much sense anyway. And pulleying the LT4 is out of the question from the factory; they could never have that under a warranty without over heating problems and other stuff that wasn't engineered into it to meet the 100,000+ mile expectation people have of the Big 3's performance cars.
I fully expect that the ZL1 will be the slowest in a straight line in this gen, just like it was last gen. It already doesn't beat/hardly ties, the last gen competitors (662 HP GT500 and Hellcat, both will hang right with it or narrowly beat it transmission to transmission). Typical Chevy. |

I even looked online again last night as I'm looking to add another 2nd muscle car to my garage next to my Zl1 and I like the Super Snake, but nope, still $100k. These dealerships are stoned out of their ever loving mind.

This is what I was harping about a few months back when I mentioned Chevy always seems to be a generation behind the competition. The 6th gen ZL1 now competes (acceleration wise at least) with the older GT500 (2013/2014) and the Hellcat. All Chevy has to do to shut everyone up and whoop the competition in every way is drop an LT5 into the Camaro. But they just won't...

A10 ZL1 to A8 HC stock for stock down to the tire and the ZL1 will win in the quarter mile.

I have to be honest, I like the style of the new Mustang and have always liked the GT500 looks. Not so much in the performance arena because I prefer a track with turns. That said if the new 1 actual does perform on the track I would be interested if the price was reasonable. That said, we know even if the msrp is $75000, you won’t get your hands on short of $100k, I’m leaning closer to $125k for the first year Some here wouldn’t blink at that number. For me, after giving my right leg and both arms to afford, I couldn’t even drive it. I’ll gladly take a ZL1, if I win the lotto I would check out the 500.

I'd like to see some kind of ZL1 limited run with the possible up coming drag performance package.
I think with even just a little torque management lifted and not even a significant hp bump the Z is right in there again.

The gen 6 camaro goes around a corner much better. Doesn't take a whole lot of engineering to go in a straight line fast. Can't get my head around the folks that think a car that goes in a straight line fast is a car worth owning......

If the new GT500 comes out as an 2019 model wouldn’t it actually have a 3rd quarter 2018 release?
Unless the first run is a short one. |
