It will be interesting to see if they bump the power. They chose not to in the 5th gen even when the 662 HP GT500 came out and the Hellcat they stood pat with 580.

Even in the Corvette they have pretty much stood their ground with the engine as is.

Precisely why we’ll be seeing the LT5 in the Camaro.

It won’t be a bump. It’ll be a new model.

I bet someone went to dealer this morning to put money down on this car. Their dream car.

Waiting to see how many will complain that it has an oversized lower grill just like the ZL1/ZL1 1LE. Or the common complaints these days of "it looks like this car" or "it looks like the bastard child of this car and this car".

Something doesn't add up with the timing of this announcement. To me, I feel like the car will arrive much sooner to surprise everyone... or Ford had something unexpected happen that delayed the planned debut.

Great news I'm happy to see ford is coming out with a new GT500! I'm sure it will also be track capable. I picture this car being a GT350R with more technology and power. If the new GT500 could beat the ZL1 1LE around the track I would be highly impressed, and I think its a realistic expectation.

Come on guys. You know the standard GT500 is not going to be a ZL1 1LE track beater. Now if they come out with an "R" version, all bets are off on that one. I do expect it to give the standard ZL1 a hard time on the track, and for sure be quicker in a straight line.

I am excited about this car though. Its a new GT500 with over 700 HP...that in of itself is awesome.

But even if it does "only" cost 70 or 75K, to me, the ZL1 is still a bargain which can be had in the low 60s. If Ford had a starting price on this car in the mid to upper 60s, now that would be impressive (more so).

I don't see Chevy upping the HP rating on the LT4, and certainly not another 60 - 70 HP to match or beat the GT500. Sure, they could drop the LT5 in there, but you can kiss that low 60K price goodbye if that happened.

This is why i am so curious to where they slot the car.

If Ford only offers one version of the 500 in the 70+ range, than it better damn well beat the standard Z in every measurable and by a decent margin on a track.

To me it will go one of two ways.

They have a 500 and 500R to compete against Z and ZLE similarly priced(With the Ford probably being a bit more expensive on the "base")

Or the 500 is in between the Z and ZLE. It outperforms the ZL1 but not quite on the same level as the ZLE and is priced accordingly.

Although 2019 still works because Ford took over the GT500 in 1969, instead of it really being a true Shelby car.

Im sure the 2019 GT-500 will be competitive and a great car, other than Ford dealers think the cars are Gold and mark them up $15 to $25K.

For that reason alone they can keep it, and i will always own a Camaro SS 1LE or the Zl1.
