You know what??? It has taken me this long, but I just remembered what I was forgetting!

V6!!! I know. What's so great about a V6? The fact that it is possible that GM could mass produce this aforementioned engine w/ LS1 type hp...and guess what...it could be more affordable thereby selling a whole hell of a lot more cars. Did I mention I saved a lot on my car insurance???

This is not factual GM released information. Everyone knows GM won't officially release anything for a while. BUT...I'm throwing out this idea for everyone... ... we all know it's okay to say we've never seen or heard of the engines GM is coming out with (this sentence should be true). I am just going to throw this idea out there for you all to think about. Two V6 engines....one is a base...then another V6 + hp = LS1 type power. Could it be possible? Anything is possible.

I have to "second" Tag's remarks about the engine's GM has and will come out with. "Anything is possible."

Seeing what GM has done already, ie; the LS1 in the current F-Body and Corvette's, the C6 ZO6,....I have absolutely no doubt that whatever motors they offer, we will be impressed.

It'll happen whether it's in the form of power, or choice of colors.

Now, the Mustang is talking about having a Shelby GT which should cause a bump in power (of course it won't be $400), and it will be offered before they do a redesign of the current model.

In later years(06 & 07), Ford offered more colors choices. Every car maker has to do something to bring in new buyers. I'm sure Chevy has a few tricks up their sleeves.

Maybe a 2010 or 2011 slight power bump, Rally Stripes, or hideaway headlights options....anything to keep people going to the dealership.

300 hp isn't going to cut it anymore....Ford will be doing a redesign after the the Camaro and Challenger hit the markets(2010 is the estimate). Even the Infiniti G35 has a 306 hp V6(sedan for now, but coupe is coming).

GM having a 300 hp, then Ford exceeding it a year later will not work. GM "will probably" be using a bigger engine 5.3L+, so make use of the displacement. Just a simple "LS2" with 400hp will cut it for me....even if it's old tech(I know this engine will be gone by then according to several posts in this forum). At that point Chevy would lead both Ford and Dodge(and Infiniti ) in hp.

But like you mentioned above.......no "real" news, so it's all guessing now.

Very good points. But, GM will have to put in a V6 for those who don't want to, or can't, spend as much for a V8. But, they will still want it to have some "passing" power. Getting a V6 will also save the buyer on insurance. I bet that we see a couple V6 engines. I think they are going to be spending most of their time worrying about beating the others out hp wise in the Z28 and SS models. It should be very competitve, though.

To be honest, I don't know the hp ratings in the V6 model of the Mustang. I'm sure GM will beat them out. So has begun the waiting game...

When I was quoting, I believe Casull stated he wanted a V8 with at least 300, and I'm saying that bar is too low.

I wasn't concerned with the V6(Mustang is 210 BTW), the Infiniti reference was to put things in perspective:
Infiniti G35(V6): 306hp
Mustang GT(V8): 300hp

I know the Mustang and G35 aren't direct competitors, but that same engine will probably end up in a Nissan Z(which is in the ballpark of a Stang GT).

Ahh. Yeah. I feel that way too. 300hp for a base model V8 will be too low. IMO. My stepmother has a G35 and that sucka is quick and very nimble, so I know what you mean. If Ford only has 210 horses in their V6, GM will blow past them for sure in their line of V6 engines.

I agree and in no way did i mean that I expect this to be GMs starting point. I was just saying that I will be easy to please becasue all I want is a 300+ HP Camaro that gets good gas milage.

I fully expect the entry level V-8 to have round 400HP, which, given my standards, would really make me happy.

Honestly, I would hope that the V-6 version is pumping out 300 horses. It is a little frusterating that all of these foreign manufacturers have developed amazing V-6 that are pumping out serious HP with great EPA estimates, but for some reason american automanufacturers have yet to figure out how to do the same.

i have driven the new g35 sedan, with the 306 hp. nice car, but no where near as fast as the mustang, even stock. the mustangs were actually underrated at 300hp, mine put down 272hp at the tire bone stock. so thru driveline loss, thats what like 330? im guessing, i dunno the formula for the driveline loss. currently the car is at 322rwhp with 330rwtq with bolt ons.

Well....I think it depends...I will agree that the Mustang and G35 are close in hp, but not in torque.

However, doing a race from a roll I'm sure the G35 will do better than from a stop. I don't doubt that the Mustang will win, but here's a quote from Car and Driver's site for the G35 6MT Sedan "Standing 1/4 mile: 13.9 sec@ 103 mph". So imagine the Coupe will have to be slightly faster.

http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...ecs-page4.html

Anyways...I'm not trying to thread jack....so back to the subject.

I REALLY hope we see a 400hp+ Camaro with similar Mustang pricing(even a few grand to blow the doors off a Mustang is worth it).
