Oil cooler for turbo cars
I’ve seen plenty of posts saying it’s fine to delete your oil cooler/heater. I’m all for de clutter so I was quick to jump on it, but got to thinking. How does the added heat from a turbo affect oil temps, if at all?

I removed the factory cooler and installed one using parts from Improved Racing. Now they offer a kit that should make it easier. Not cheap though.
http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-co...kit-p-938.html I can post some pics of what I did if you want more details.

Yeah, their kit won’t work with our intercoolers. IMHO, that’s a bit overkill for an oil system. Tranny cooler, sure- but that’s massive for an oil cooler.

Here is what I did on mine. I made custom brackets to mount it with the Huron Speed intercooler.

SS4e, taking an actually oil temp is a novel idea. How did the oil temps compare with the ECU guesstimates VS actual?

I've got mixed feelings so far. I think mounting the cooler in front of the radiator, intercooler, condenser isn't such as grand idea as it will block good airflow. Where Robert has his, or elsewhere I think would be a better location.

My oil cooler was bigger than that. I cut the crash bar for clearance. I also ended up buying an expensive radiator with twin Spal fans to help pull air through the oil cooler, intercooler, ac condenser, and radiator. They pulled so hard a small piece of paper would be sucked against the oil cooler.

I didn't have any cooling issues with anything when the car was single turbo. I'm switching to twins now, I'll see how it works but I don't anticipate any problems. I do have an oil temp gauge installed in the A pillar.

I'm not running any oil cooler at all with no issues. But our climate here is cooler.Didn't notice any difference in the gauge before and after. Running VR1 20W50 right now.
