Shudder on start with manual transmission.

Do any of you manual trans owners find that if you start out very gently in either first or reverse that you get a shudder thru the car that feels like clutch chatter. I took it to the dealer and they say that it is normal. I have a hard time buying into that.

Mine shuddered a little when I picked it up at the museum. It gradually got less and less. I guess by about 1500-2000 miles it went away. 1300 miles was a two day drive to Austin,Texas.

Drive it and I would bet it will break in and get smoother in a few hundred miles.

Thanks for the feedback New C7. Mine has done it from the start. I now have 1000 miles and it's still basically the same. At first the dealer said that it's tire squirm, but tires don't squirm when the car is going straight. This is evident immediately as you let up on the clutch. I hope I am as lucky as you and it eventually goes away.

Binko,

Try increasing your rpms as you release clutch in first gear. I had a similar issue at first and I found that getting the rpms up higher as I engaged the clutch helped for me, of course we may have different issues. JIM D.

Jim D, you are correct!! I find that if I increase the RPMs, the shudder is significantly reduced. However in stop and go traffic, that is a pain and wasteful. I had a C5 that never did it and I don't understand why this one has to do it.

Clutch and flywheel are breaking in. It will go away.

Not to hijack the thread but on a different note has anybody noticed that when the throttle is blipped the revs take a little time to settle down. I only have very few miles because of all the snow lately, but noticed that on a brief drive around town after picking up the car this kind of interferes with smooth shifts when dawdling it around. It's not the skip shift I'm feeling ,it shifts into 2nd just that it doesn't settle quickly enough.
Has anyone else felt this?

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Is there a fix.
I can't understand why this has not been discussed. It's irritating.
Is there a tuner that could take care of this or like the article states if GM gets gets enough complaints will they offer a reflash of the car.

I am still experiencing the clutch chatter when starting out. Yes it does lessen somewhat under a higher RPM engagement, however no one wants to do that all of the time, especially in traffic just to avoid an issue that shouldn't be happening in the first place.
The dealer could feel it as well however could not decide if it was normal or not. I asked if they would let me try another 7 speed in the their parking lot for comparison however they said no to that.

Binko, I have the manual too, and in 8000+ miles felt no shudder while starting off from a stand still at all. Nada. Zip. I would tell your dealer to take a look at it, as from my experience a shudder is NOT normal. I also had a C5 with a manual and had no shudder in it either.
