That actually pains me more than the mattress thing, I think. The trailer part is fine, but bikes on the roof? If you want to act like you own a Subaru, then buy one!

I knew of a guy who was moving, just across town... only a couple of miles. Loaded a bunch of stuff in a pickup truck, put the mattress on top of it all. But, tying/ strapping seemed like a pain in the butt, so, brilliantly, he just laid down on top of it (to keep it from flying off!) and had his mom drive the truck.
When it DID come flying off, the injuries he sustained included permanent brain damage. He wasn't even working with much to start with, either... obviously. In other macabre things I know, I lost a friend to a pipe on a delivery truck that was not properly secured. The truck was travelling in the opposite direction when it came off of the truck, and speared right through the windshield, killing my friend instantly. And, I know yet ANOTHER person who lost an arm in a very similar fashion: a 2x4 came though the windshield. As you may guess, I am not the least bit tolerant of dipshits who cannot properly secure an item onto a vehicle. I don't really care if you want to carry a refrigerator and a washing machine on top of a Camaro... just make sure that it will NOT come off. |

+1 scalded dog
Sorry about the friends you lost. As far as this post goes... 1) like Ron White said, " you can't fix stupid" 2) when I see things like this the first thought that comes to mind is," sometimes you need chlorine for the gene pool" 3) doesn't everybody know somebody that has a pickup truck? 4) hell, if not, you can rent one from u-haul for like 20 bucks!!! 5) but then again, maybe he has no friends, spent every penny he had on the car and that's the reason he has to shop at IKEA anyway! :-) :-)

I'd be worried the shark fin would distort the roof with a mattress sitting on it.
Have you ever grabbed the fin and gave it a wiggle? Its a really weak area.
