Whoa, I've never even heard of hard wiring a radar detector like that! I have to get that done when I get one. That dangling wire would drive me nuts.

A radar detector? It's a device the Canadian police will take from you, set in front of your rear tire, and make you run over it. Then will give you a big-assed fine for owning it in the first place, along with your speeding ticket.

Just make sure you can easily remove it if you drive through a state where they're illegal (VA, DC).

In the US, some state laws make it illegal to have one in your possession. It all depends on where you are... That is one downfall to have one 'permanantly' mounted in your car. If you are visiting a state where they are illegal, you can get fined for it.

Mines cordless. No fixing up or hiding wires. Looks great

In Ontario this is quite accurate, Quote:
Although they won't usually search your person, but they will search your car. So you want something that you can pull down quick and stuff in your pocket before the cop walks up to your car. Assuming you do get caught. And if they say the mount on your mirror is for a radar detector, you just claim it's for a gps. This doesn't always work but for the 800 fine when you get caught you sure try some interesting ways of hiding it. I don't think anyone in my family still has them other than a few cousins though. That being said radar detectors do save quite a few tickets.

Blend mount with mirror tap is the way to go. Mine can be quickly unplugged, pulled off, and stashed away. 90% of the time, works every time. :P

I'm not a fan of the cord either, but I made a hook that I hook on the side of the console then straight up to the detector, next to the mirror.
