Anyone rocking an 8" sub in the trunk and happy?

I'm deciding on adding a little bass to the boston system. I have a 12" setup in mind weighs 40lbs all together. Or an 8" setup weighs about 21lbs all together and smaller foot print.

About the same cost for either. Anyone rocking an 8" in the trunk and very happy? I dont need earth shattering bass but I like some thump.

1/12/20 Update

Pioneer powered 10" subwoofer. T harness, 10 gauge amp kit.

Got it installed. Took me a few hours trying to workout cable length etc. I think I still may have made it a little short, the harness was super easy to use. Used blue power cable to ground the amp to the battery but red and black heat shrink to differentiate them. The provided ground was way too short.

I wasnt sure whether to set the sub to speaker level or rca input. Technically its rca input but the harness taps into speaker level if I'm not mistaken.

Also not sure what to tune and set it to so I have some research to do.

It fits perfectly snug under the rear shelf. Going to see if it moves any under driving conditions. Right now it bumps with bass boost at 0 with certain songs. Havent installed the bass knob yet. Ran out of time, the wife needed the garage lol.

Very pleased with this budget bass option so far and I still have the longest part of my trunk of needed.

Thanks everyone for the help!

What's your plan for powering your sub, if you don't mind sharing?

8" is that all you got?

My powered 10" sub won't thump hard but fills in the bass enough to shake the mirrors. I'd get a 12" or more to try to thump.

I'm going the easy route and going with a powered 8 or powered 12 enclosure and the ******** harness possibly.

I dont mind separate amps but cost wise this is much cheaper.

A all in one 8" won't thump very well , but a high end 8" would hit pretty good. With the right box set up to reflect the bass off the back of the trunk the hit in the front seats would be pretty good.

With today's digital amps can get 500 watts RMS in very very small amp that could easily be mounted in the trunk and not take up any space, like in the spare tire well or on a wheel well or on the sub box it self

Just a couple examples of how little money you have to spend to get the bass that will not disappoint. Believe me a all in one 8" will disappoint

few weeks ago I installed the Kicker 43DCWR122 (dual 12's) and a 46CXA1200 (1200 watt amp) in another vehicle. I was always skeptical of Kickers and more into Alpine, but the reviews on Crutchfield and Best Buy were great. These things are beasts and not terribly priced. They hit super hard and clean. I doubt the duals would have fit in my Camaro though..

In hind sight, I think I could have gotten away with just a single sub..but I have a new respect for the Kicker line.

I'm looking at a rockford fosgate powered 8 and JBL powered 12. Probably going to pick the 12 up if it fits the trunk well.

I have the RF self-powered 10" in mine and it thumps pretty good. It doesn't blast the ghetto, but I wouldn't want it to. I bought it for good bass when I'm in the car and it does just that.

The nice thing is it fits like a glove right under the rear package shelf in the trunk and it doesn't slide around with a little velcro on the top. One of the best mods I've done to date.

I found an rf 8 for $90 used and a jbl 12 for $70 used (ported) but if a 10 works I can get a pioneer 10 within my budget as well.

Thanks for all the input!

i'm a rockford guy and have been for over 20 years my amps are ovr 20 years old and still rock solid.IMO i would get this if i was on a budget
https://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosg.../dp/B00BF6HYDE

i have 2 10's and i replaced the factory radio so no fark for me there are better ways to do what you want. 1 10 is ok for some bass the way i do it 1 12 may be more than you want if you are considering a 8. i just went with sundown 10's to give something else a try.the sundown SA 8's are a great option and take very little air space.
https://www.amazon.com/SA-8-V-3-D4-S...00868620&psc=1 but there are many options you could go with i would go for the best sound takeing the least space.

Well I took the plunge. Picked up a 10" powered pioneer, amp kit, thump harness, about $260 total.

I understand the value of better components for the subwoofer but I just have a salty wound after having 3 subwoofer setups stolen in 3 different cars where I went all out.

So cheaper is more appealing these days hahah. I will post up the results when I install it.

Yes - a JL Audio 8-W3v3 in both their ported box and a sealed box

It works but I’d suggest a 10 at least. I’m going with a 12 myself next time
