Car Show Hostilities
I have been going to car shows for 33 years. Originally in a 67 RS/SS Vert Camaro. Currently for the last 5 years in my 13 ZL1 vert. People have been very hostile to myself and others that have shown up in newer cars. I consider myself to be an automobile enthusiast and don't criticize others for how they have fun with their own cars, in their own way. Why do you suppose people are like this? What are yor thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I have never ran into hostility at car shows, what kind of hostile behavior do you run into?

Yyyyyyyyyyyyyup.
Get up at 7am, pay $20, sit around for 6 hours for a 3$ trophy. All the while getting sideways looks and back handed comments from folks who are either jealous, uptight, trophy happy or just down right assholes. Wait until you go to the drag strip...lol No thank you. It ain’t about the cars anymore... |

I guess it would depend on what car shows you go to and the area..lots of the shows in California ,never come across any of that . Now ther are car shows that are exclusive for old cars but they use the state that the flyers.

It's the "me too" movement....or better yet, "me only."
Bunch of self centered ego maniacs out there. Gotta pick your shows.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Have entered both my C6 Corvette and Camaro SS in car shows, some of which consisted primarily of older model vehicles; both vehicles have some minor cosmetic 'mods' and all I've ever received is compliments. I don't go with winning awards as my main motivator, I go primarily to hang out and have great discussions with other car enthusiasts, as well as check out all the other vehicles; however, they have both received honorable mention a couple of times at separate shows, once at the same one.

got a nasty comment the other day from someone ive known 25 years or so.he said "thats a make believe camaro, you should have kept your old tempest."it was a cool car,but i was tired of fighting the rust monster and getting 8 mpg on high test.i said"im good, enjoy making believe youre getting 30 miles per gallon and that your car handles well".alot of the shows here have different classes for early and late model cars which does a lot to cut down on the sniping on newer cars,i can see why a guy with a 50 year old car would be upset to be in the same class as a car right off the showroom floor that needed nothing other than a good wash and vacuum.BTW i enjoy looking at all the cars, even the miatas and mustangs.

I’d guess the sniping comments come from guys who have older cars (1990 or older?) in the show. They don’t think you should be there because you don’t have a photo album spread out showing restoration pictures from rust bucket on up, etc. If that’s the case I’d say they need to have a model year cutoff for entry. There’s no cutoff so they’re frustrated seeing newer cars because of a perception that it’s their show. Whose to say...
