State Farm did not initiate the collection of IndyPaceCar's data. General Motors Holding collected the "driving practices" data via OnStar connected services and then provided to LexisNexis. Due to an upcoming renewal, State Farm queried LexisNexis for any data on IndyPaceCar which returned the "driving practices" data.

Collection vs Query

Ive not seen it through USAA, I had an 18 1LE with the APP/Smart Driver reporting stuff and never saw an effect on my premiums.

Im going to call today OnStar and opt out of this 3d party reporting nonsense.

The company I work for now pays for this information coming directly from the company unit (GM Truck).

When activating OnStar, there were no questions asked about this data collection, but that could be due to a fleet account. Either way, ANY OnStar equipped vehicle is susceptible, all the way back to the early 2000's.

GM has been caught selling this information before, never trust them to secure your privacy data, best course of action is to eliminate the option altogether.

Surveillance states are 100% Orwellian.

Ford has a similar thing basically.....there is a cable that you have to disconnect in the trunk behind the drivers tail light.....looks like an XM radio box and connection.....communicating with Ford all the time......

I had Smart Driver enabled when I drove away from the dealership. I was just driving without even being close to jumping on it and when I shut down the car it showed I had 2 hard accelerations and one hard braking. Really? And if that would get sent to insurance I'm sure it would flag me for poor driving. Don't need that. I made sure I unenrolled yesterday after this thread came up.

I hadn't considered a 3d party reporting matrix like we're talking about now but you pull that smart driver report and it'll go so far as to show on a map your acceleration and braking and to me it's been a little unnerving but just in the way that could be sued if you were in an accident.

Neither did I, but when you think about it - selling our data is just another revenue stream for them. I'm sure insurance companies aren't the only interested parties.

When I got my 2014 GM, I laughed when I realized OnStar's idea of navigation was to call them and tell a person where you wanted to go and they would send line by line instructions. Meanwhile, the whole world was using maps with automation. I thought, this onstar feature is going to go dead fast.... here we are 8 years later dealing with extreme privacy concerns.

The next gen of vehicles, EV or otherwise, it will be mandatory to participate in the surveillance, and any tampering will result in fines/arrests.

Your range, charge capabilities, throttle usage will all be easily controlled (they already are with electric power steering, and drive by wire TBs, electronically shifted transmissions, etc).

Look at EU rules and expect them at a state near you soon. Like the car talking to the speed limit signs.

This is the exact and only reason they are pushing EV's. This will be bigger then big brother... whatever that is.
