WGAF is what I've heard. Apples and Oranges really.. given the LS3 in both cars acceleration = SS, handling = 1LE. I beat many 5.0s when I was bone stock.

If it's a 14! I definitely agree! The 1LE is the best looking 14! The wheels suede steering and shift knob is killer too!

NP. I got into my SS rather low cost (out the door used for $21,000) as the dealer wanted it off the lot (sat 3 months).

So, for me, the upgrades to the car more than made up for the differences. IF I were going new however, I'd go ZL1 -- LOVE that version! But, $$ stops me ;o)...

I did surprise a 5.0 mustang not too long ago -- I don't think he expected that from the SS...by the look on his face...

A man walked into a store to buy some milk. He really needed milk , eggs and bread but only had enough to buy the milk and had like $1 more. The store owner said to the man for the price of the milk plus $1 I'll let you go with the milk, bread and eggs, deal. What do you think the man did. Same here. Get the 1LE and have a nice day.

The biggest question is what your use will be. If the 1/4 is your thing get a regular SS the trans gearing is more favorable. If the road course/AutoX is your thing or you want a very responsive street stormer than the 1LE is a hard to beat package.

When I test drove Camaro's the difference in feel from an SS to a 1LE SS was night and day. The 1LE is about 80% of what I expect out of a street car and then I hit the Road Course every now and again. So it was the obvious choice for me.

The question that needs to be asked is this. What mods would you be adding to the car if you get a normal manual trans SS? If your going to add wheels/tires, a supercharger/turbo, or gears then I think it's a no brainier to get a 1LE. If you were to add a supercharger or turbo look into what the cost is for a ZL1 fuel pump with labor. The 1LE already has a ZL1 fuel pump. If you are going to add wheels and tires look into that cost as well. Even if you don't like the 1LE/ZL1 wheels and tires( I hate the offset myself) you can sell them for something different and not pay anything for a wheel/tire upgrade. Me personally I would have my choice of wheels/tires ready when purchasing a 1LE and then sell the original 1LE wheels and tires new. I bet you could get $3500 for them if new. A massive cost for SS owners is the 3.91 gears, especially if they let the dealer do it with the reprogramming to keep warranty. Add all this cost up and that 1LE package is a steal.

I highly doubt the gearing of a SS with 3.45's /28.7" tire is the same as a 1LE with 3.91's/ 28" tire even with the different trans ratio. Someone who knows how to do the math can check it out and post what the torque multiplication is when factoring rear end gear, trans gear and tire height. Yes a SS with 3.91's will have better gearing than a 1LE but I still think a 1LE has better gearing than a stock SS. As for which is better for drag racing? Well, a L99 is going to be better/cheaper for that in the long run but if you had to choose between a manual SS and 1LE I still would take a 1LE so long as your going to be modding it. Any modded SS is going to have to shift into 4th gear anyway. A 1LE with a 28" tire will do 140mph in 4th gear. BTW, that's what a normal SS will do with 3.91's and a 28" tire since both trans have a 1.0 4th gear ratio. If you get the 1LE and want even more gear you could always use a 26"-27" drag radial or slick for the track.

  • ZL1 pump comes with all SS Camaros '14+ as far as I've heard in the forum.
  • 1LE transmission ratios with the 3.91 has almost the same spread as the regular SS overall ratio spread. The difference is how much closer the ratios are in consecutive gears, something much more useful at the track than at the street.
  • Actually, if you add 3.91 gears to a regular SS, it probably becomes a monster, more fun than a 1LE, since you now have shortened the ratio spread, boosting torque available at the same gear in comparison to a 1LE or a regular SS.
  • I'd definitely buy a 1LE, which is what I did myself, but wanted to point these out regardless.
