A local dealer here has a market adjustment transportation fee (+3K), a paint pro pak (+$600 wax job), and other craziness which totals approx 5K markup. I took one look and left the lot.

Dealers who do this are just plain assholes in my book. One it is plain greedy and two it ends up biting them in the butt in the end. This is due to having to pay carrying costs on the cars that dont sell for longer periods of time. Want to make money then sell cars, want to be greedy then be an ass but dont complain when what comes around goes around.
Cheers
Kinley

We got a sleeze bag dealer just outside of Bristol trying to pull that crap.
He's been holding Camaro's on the lot for six months now, Maybe GM will shut them down next!

If you look like a sucker then…well. Ordered mine in April for MSRP. Got the USAA discount ($750.00) and the buyback option ($500.00) when the car came in (Sep). Don’t buy into that market adjustment line (BS). There still trying it hear (NC) at the tune of $4,000.00. Do you like your salesmen so much that you’re willing to pay an extra $80.00 a month for the next five years?

I am with Tekkguy here. That dealer is obviously trying to screw you over by price gouging. I would shop around and find better deals.

I live in Charlotte, NC and I placed my order at Diver Chevy in Wilmington, DE, they are about 450 miles from me, but I don't care. Its a way better deal than in NC.

Tell them - yes I'm OK with a Market Adjustment. The market right now is somewhere between MSRP and Invoice, the closer you get to Invoice the more likely I will buy from you. I have this $xx,xxx offer from xyz dealer, but I would rather purchase close to home. If you can match that price, we may have a deal.

Two dealers I went to tried that on me too. One with a 5k markup and one with a 7k. 7k! I told them what they could do with their car and got up and left. Just shop around. There are plenty of dealers willing to deal with you. After shopping around a bit I was able to get mine for around $2400 under MSRP.

Dealer lied- GM marks up nothing. Dealer does. He is trying to make you think it was GM's idea-WRONG.

Market adjustments are one thing, but lying about them is even worse.Tell the owner about the salesman's dishonesty and why you would never consider buying a car from them again.

It don't hurt for them to try...
While I understand what you are saying,
I think that sort of tactic it actually does 'hurt' -
both the dealership & the sales person -
in the long run.

Many potential customers have loooong memories.
When such practices were common on Corvettes,
I waited - and when I bought my 2007, I did
** NOT **
buy from a dealership or sales person that 'tried'
anything like that.

YMMV.

I recommend this link here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=69

You will find several reputable dealers who want to sell you a Camaro and not clean your wallet out. CamaroScotty and Becky have already been here or have been mentioned. From what I have read, these people really love this car and genuinely want people to get them in their driveways without being taken to the cleaners.

And just to reinforce the other posts:

Thats something I just had to do with Steve Moore Chevrolet here in Charlotte, NC. I ended up walking out.

Please be careful in Charlotte, if you are buying a car in this area. The dealers are major sheisters.

I also highly recommend talking to Camaro Scotty, even though buying from him would not make logistical sense for me, he was more than helpful in giving me tips on what to look out for.
