Apples against oranges. And, as mentioned, Ralph Gilles is a racer. I can't speak for the Caddy guy, but Ralph is a serious wheelman.

Also not mentioned here, but bragged about elsewhere, is the "reality" of a Hellcat mule with 800+ hp. Of all the people at FCA, who would most likely be the guy to put such a car through its pace, if it in fact exists?
How about how tacky it is for the CEO of company to target a guy out enjoying his CTS-V wagon on the track and then putting out the video like a kid posting a street racing kill?

If Ralph whats to impress, challenge Aaron Link to bring out a ZL1 or ship a Cat to Germany and run the Ring

Counts? Yes, but without the benefit of perspective. For example, what if I showed you the 12.1 second quarter mile Edmunds recorded with the GT500? By itself if looks like a 12 second car no? But when I put it in the context of the Hellcat and ZL1 times, it looks very different.

Edmunds:
---GT500: 0-60, 3.9sec, 1/4mile 12.1 @ 120.6mph; 3870lbs
-----ZL1: 0-60, 4.1sec, 1/4mile 12.4 @ 116.0mph
Hellokitty: 0-60, 4.8sec; 1/4mile 12.5 @ 118.8mph; 4454lbs

This is why I look at a body of work rather than a single event in isolation. Did the Hellcat run 11.2 at a dragstrip? Only in Dodge press releases.

If SuperChevy magazine records an 11.7 with the ZL1 at the dragstrip one night, but has never run the GT500 or Hellcat, I can say the ZL1 runs 11.7? Look at the body of work. The more data there is, the closer you get to the true mean.

I understand completely and I'm glad you brought these questions up. I have no doubt the 11.2 is achievable in the right hands under the right conditions with enough tries. But that is faaaaaar from average as we've seen in the hands of independent reviews.

Thank you!
Thanks for the well thought out responses medisin.

That's a fair price for that car imo.

I posted in the Challenger thread and update here as well:

I have spent 3 days in the Charger Hellcat, I am not allowed to give any driving impressions or photos due to a media embargo until after next week. I will update as soon as embargo is lifted.

I look forward to hearing your impressions. I hope it doesn't suffer the same handling characteristics frowned upon in every Challenger review. Will this be available with a manual or auto only?

What is the target audience? Those that have $65k to spend on a sedan will likely not be shopping Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Acura, Lincoln, Buick, Infinity. Those that have $65k to spend on a performance car will likely choose something sportier. So it's going to be the person that favors acceleration over handling, loves Dodge, has $65k to spend, needs space for 5 passengers, and requires a factory backed warranty.

In what way? Competitors have been offering significantly more power, performance and handling than Dodge Charger for years and years. The appeal here is for power/$. As I said above, people that have this kind of money have many more options for achieving performance goals. $65k sedans are ubiquitously luxury sedans in the current market. Going to take a special buyer to put $65k into a Dodge not named Viper.

Auto only and I would think that it will be very close to the same as the Challenger and a bit more weight as well, so I'm sure you will be saying the same about the Charger as you have been about the Challenger.

Much like the way the Challenger is shaping up, it looks like the Scat Pack Charger may be the big seller.

I forget which website it was on, but they were saying it's a SS (sedan) killer, and from the stats, I would have to agree.

I can tell you that they brought 4 competing sedans, an Impala, SS, SHO, and Maxima. No one touched them. They literally never moved the entire event. They were available for drives and were quickly forgotten about. I even forgot about them until the day was over, and I really wanted to drive the SS and SHO.

As I said above, I can not comment on handling as I do not want to violate the embargo put in place by the PR department.

While that's high hp, I'm not impressed.

They just put a s/c on the biggest engine and did nothing else to the car. Its paying for a high HP machine that isn't refined i.e., magnetic shock absorbers. I'd rather get something with less HP but it is more technological.

Still, Dodge wins.

Looking forward to next week. SS sedan looks too boring to me. If I am unable to keep my camaro ss and buy a hellcat charger I will def get the scat pack version instead in that b5 blue or plum crazy if offered for the 2016s
