Yes, it was for you. The downshifts at about 0:28, 0:44, and 1:05 sounded a lot more like a manual blip than ECU-commanded (probably easier if you left-foot brake). Upshifts were all unmistakably AT shifts.

Video times because I'm not familiar enough with Road Atlanta to put a turn number with what the video is showing. Maybe some day.

Balok, do have a tranny tune? If not, it may help with the AT shift points and predictions. My IPF TCU did and the auto blip/Rob match is more noticable between two events at Sebring this year. I haven't manually shifted yet but next time...i will.

I think I know what you're hearing Norm. At most of those spots I'm basically shifting at points where the engine has wound down a little closer to the RPM's for the gear I am shifting to, so you don't hear as drastic of a blip when I shift. At .28 section (T2) still climbing the hill a little and I make a hard stab on the brakes in turn in to T2 at .26. As soon as you hear me lift at .26 I'm at threshold braking just for a stab about the time I'm kissing that curb on the left at T2. I shift right at the end of the curb as I'm turning and aiming for the curb at apex of T3. I'm still trail braking a little as I hit the curb at apex of T3 at .30.

At .44 that is the entry into T5 which is hella tricky and extremely tight but a crap-load of fun! I roll out and begin gently braking as I'm squaring up on the curb to the right. That curb on the right can be really slick with a lot of rubber on it and warm conditions, plus it I don't like how it unsettles my car if I'm on it too high, so I just try to kiss it and look ahead to the curb on the left at T5. That little uphill section (.41 to .44) really helps to slow that heavy car so a gentle stab and some light trail braking is all that's needed to set up for T5. So once I'm pointed for my entry and the car is set I shift up to 3rd while I'm eyes up for my exit of T5.

At 1.05, that is the T6 and T7 section I mentioned earlier. It's as if I'm almost between gears there as I was having to wait until I was turning into T7 for the car to be able to shift into 2nd gear there and it was really messing up my rhythm through that section, and that is such a quick section that it's all about rhythm and being smooth for me to get a good launch down the long back straight. I eventually stopped shifting there and just stayed in 3rd.

I don't know if that explains anything, but like I said, I think it's just that in those spots I had let the engine rev down to the point an exaggerated blip was not necessary. In the car it sounded exactly like it has always sounded and I didn't have any tranny worries at all.

Brakes on the other hand...

↑↑↑ that does help. Thanks.

I think a lot of it has to do with you being perfectly accustomed to what to expect it to sound like vs me coming from a MT background and having gotten in a little practice rev-matching automatic transmission downshifts with my right foot and remembering what that sounded like vs what the usual stomped-right-foot-commanded AT downshift that everybody else makes them do sounds like.

I know the feeling about turns where 2nd gear would be usable (rpm-wise) but only barely so (within a handful of mph of redline). So 3rd gear it is, and the risk of having any lack of smoothness upsetting the car goes away. If I'm close enough to the cornering limit, I won't be able to use 100% throttle even in 3rd.

First time with an instructor and I learned so much. Crazy Larry helped me tremendously with picking the correct lines and where to break. Also where to push harder. Just need to work on when I shift and to get that smoother and I should be in for some even better lap times. Also there always seemed to be traffic but I was able to set my fastest lap so far with a 1:39.73.

This was the first time I used an OBD2 code reader with the track addict app so Im not sure how true the throttle meter is. Seems to be off a bit. Gear indicator and tach seem to be correct. Can't wait for the next track day!

Had great time at Auto Club Speedway. I broke my all time on the last lap. 2:00.551
That is goal for most with stock setup for of most us.
Quick note the Nitto 555 G2 gives up too much. It pushes out too much but hey what you expect from a harder tire.

Last run of the day. Got behind the field the BMW ran off the track. It was ok, was able to work on my marks with a clean track. The Nitto 555 G2 are greasy. Too much of a hard street tire. The brake rotors had tons of brake pad build up.

Still a ways to go to catch some of you, but here was last week's VIR with the NCM.

Obvious place for me to pick up speed is braking a good deal later at the end of back and pit straights, and another 5-10 MPH on the uphill esses, just need to develop the stones to do so.

Lap timer was screwy on the last run (some reason moved start finish to halfway through turn 1 and combine 3 laps or so), so I left that data out of the best lap video.

Car is completely stock as it came from GM 2014 Zl1 (except for brake fluid).

Best lap: 2:19.07

Video of an earlier session with lap data. Nothing super fast, but decent run:

My fastest lap so far at Spokane County raceway. I keep improving my times but my front right tire finally bit the dust.

If someone can fix my link for the video or tell me how to save it show it shows a video instead of the link I would greatly appreciate it!
