They should have put the electrical mechanisim on the lower part of the latch assembly so the trunk lid would only have a striker. The wires would have been hidden out of the way and the design would have been much cleaner. I just have to assume they thought of this idea but it was rejected for some unknown good reason. :(

The (in the car) trunk remote I assume is a push button (electric) and not a pull cable, correct?

Yes, electronic unlatching via key fob or button in the cockpit.

Right but put the striker on the decklid and the latch on the main and problem solved.

You would solve the problem of the wiring harness, but you would create other issues in packaging a latch on the body side. Both locations are possible, Corvette decklid latch is on the body as an example. There are multiple solutions, including running the harness outside of the trunk in the gutter area.

This is the best overall solution, that satisfies the many requirements involved, wiring harness just being one of them.

and by the way, it's still ok to complain. Satisfying the customer is one of "those requirements"

I have a tendency to support the guys that engineered it. I'm just offering up an explanation on how it may have ended up this way.

So if you don't like it..........you should say so, that's how "priorities" change in this process.

That's why we have these forums, so cosmetics, engineering, and all that other stuff can be debated. In my opinion, the wiring harness doesn't seem to be much of a problem. I don't think I'll snag it.
