I have actual cd's. I understand that if i bought it on itunes i could get it on my phone.

Even if you have the CDs you can put it on your phone. If it's a store bought cd I should look to get the disc info, track names, artist album etc, and will load automatically. If it's a burnt cd you will have to manually input the info. You can even choose what songs off the discs you want so you don't have the unwanted songs on your computer or device.

Just thought of this - and forgive me if it is a little duh - do you have the option to manually manage your music checked on the phone options in iTunes?

Are you using the cable that came with the phone or a third party one? I keep the original cable just for connecting to the computer because I have issues with both my iPhones connecting to iTunes with third party cables.
