Guess that shoots my theory all to heck!

I guess if a T-Rex were driving it might be convenient for it to be on the driver side.

It's so your passenger has the chance to scare the crap out of you.

It's bad enough that when the passenger presses the unlock button on the passenger door, that it unlocks my driver door, as well!

I always thought front wheel drive cars were more likely to have it on the left of the console, and rear wheel drive cars would normally have them on the right of the console.

I noticed this the very first time that I parked the car. My husband rests his left hand on it while I drive, and I usually have to push it off to park. I don't like the idea of my passengers having any control.

Yeah. With high performance RWD cars, with potential for drifters/drifting, it should be located near the driver for said reason.
WTF GM....build cars specifically 100% with drifters in mind, will ya! :P

From a drivers standpoint the brake was moved to the passenger side of the console for leverage during extreme driving maneuvers. Usually you use the brake during high speed radical turns and the g's force your body against the console, if the brake was on the drivers side, it would be awkward for you to grab and use it.

The other reason is for egress and customer complaints, some people would just plop themselves in the car and if the brake was on the drivers side, they would constantly hit it. Rib shots suck when you get it!

It really makes it akward when you have a passenger and you go to release the brake and it comes close to their leg... Unless that's the purpose of it; to help you put your hand on their leg and have a good excuse just in case you get your hand smacked.

^^^Maybe it's so you can ask the little hottie in the passenger seat to pull the parking brake when you drop her off at her house. That way she gets the subconscious feel of something big and hard in her hand that you are conspicuously allowing her to pull on :P
Consequently resulting in the inevitable question from her.... "Wanna come in?"

Smart GM, smart!

BA-ZING!
