Have you driven a car with AFM? Turned on you get 1-2mpg more. I'll sacrifice the 1-2mpg to get rid of the annoyance of cylinder deactivation. Especially if you're running any kind of exhaust system. |

AFM is not an enthusiast-friendly option. Nobody wants their V8 to sound like a Honda.

I can only imagine what this engine would be like with LT's, high flow cats, cai, and a tune!

I hadn't thought of the "sound" drawback that others mentioned. I suppose that could be annoying. |

could never understand why people mod cars that have warranties.
once the warranty is out, sure; go crazy... but why mess with it in the mean time when there are so many other options to build/customize cars. each to their own and all that. |

The standard exhaust improves airflow by 13 percent — GM says — and uses a pair of butterfly valves to adjust the sound when the cylinder deactivation system is in V4 mode. |

Yep, it has two sets of butterfly valves, one to reduce drone, and one during high-revving which opens up all four exhaust outlets instead of just two.

I wonder how SC the engine will be affected with the AFM or vice versa.

Either/or. Heard somewhere that the valves in the AFM may not be up to high compression.
