This will be ignored unfortunately, but Amsoil 10W-30 Signature is the best oil for any street engine. You don't need a 40 weight, it's a band aid for wet sump track applications, and 0 weight oils are a more a gimmick than actual reality (feel free to look up viscosity and pour point)

Dexos is irrelevant marketing bs, Amsoil exceeds all those standards

Nothing like ignoring the owners manual and going with some good old fashioned forum advice! 🤠

Seems like a broad generalization that 10W-30 is “the best oil for ANY street engine”. I personally wouldn’t want 10W oil in my car during the winter. Stuff is like sludge around 30*. What experience do you have to say the LT4 would work well with 10W-30?

Also in what areas does Amsoil have a higher standard than Dexos exactly? I agree it’s marketing BS to keep people buying Mobile and any high quality oil would do, but to say it exceeds all the Dexos standards is a bit far fetched I think..

Living in Illinois, I was happy to see that 0W weight was spec'd for these engines as I drive my car when its cold. I learned several years ago how much faster 0W oil flows when we had a piece of equipment that was faulting out on initial start up for low oil pressure when it got below 0. We switched from a 10w to a 0w and the problem went away. BTW, the fault was for low oil pressure for 15 SECONDS!!!!

Think its hard finding it in the US, try finding it in Canada. Sure the dealer has it, but it is an arm, leg, foot and other body parts expensive...
Since I will never track my car, I go with the Dexos approved 5W-30 which is perfectly fine as per the manual. Its cheap, easy to find and can stock up when on sale.

This is kind of a random statement - it pours just fine at 30 F. Run 5W-30 if you're in a northern climate.

Look up pour point and cold viscosity for 0W-40 vs 5W-30

Isn't the first oil change still free?

I let GM do my first one, zero issues.

I use Valvoline European full synthetic 0W40. As others have suggested I’d also wait until 1000 miles. I did my differential with OEM fluid at abut 4.5k miles at the same time as my 2nd oil change.

Found the ESP Dex2 at wallyworld for $9 a qt. Good enough for this go around.

And no offense to any dealers but I will do my own oil changes. Only way it sees a dealer is if something is wrong.

Were you not able to get the Autozone deal for $6 per quart for the Dexos 2 ESP x3? I just ordered 10 qts plus 2 filters for $82 shipped. (tax included)
