With the XLR, we had to drive back to our hotel and drop off the golf clubs so we could put the top down. Same with the G6 but you could at least put the clubs in the back seat.

It is certainly possible, but it adds significant cost, significant mass, and makes the car even more impracticle. Unless you add even more panels (XLR was two some Volvos I think have 3) you fill the trunk space with the roof.

For some this works and would be fine, but not for everyone.

I worked on the XLR and launched it. It was no cake walk to get the panels to fit and keep the car dry. It is even more complex than the Camaro top system in this regard.

What it does do is provide quieter (slightly) top up driving and that's about it.

But to do it on the Camaro would have been a huge tear up to the structure and back end of the car.
Number 3, thanks for sharing. What you say makes perfect sense to me!

I like the top as a soft top, takes me back to the '69-'72 days of my previous gen GM verts.

I would love to see a vert hardtop, but I'm not quite ready to trade mine in any time soon

GM just do it. If the G6 could have one without a ton of cost so can the Camaro. Also no more rub mark or top replacement issues. How much is that eating into the bottom line?

I think that if there is enough demand then GM will listen. I think a hardtop version is a logical phase for this vehicle. Especially if it gets rid of the cloth top issues. Even Chrysler has a cloth and hard top version of the 2010 Sebring and 2011 200

BMW can do it to the Z4's and 325's. Volkswagen did it with the Passet.

I would be interested but I would have a little concern about trunk space or lack of for trips.

A hard top convertible would be very cool but they cost and weigh a ton.

It would be cheaper than replacing all our tops. Alone the labor and parts is about 4 grand. I've had 1 replaced and need another. 8 grand on a cloth top in less than 3 months of ownership. By by profit margin.

I like the car beefy but if it has to shrink, I still would like the hardtop convertible.
